Dog Log 14.01-17.02.2013

After a while we are back again with the Webdiary. We have an excuse: we had a lot to do. I try to summarize what has happened with us in the last few weeks. I hope we were successful. As it always happening there were some good and bad things. We got some new dogs and some others went to new hosts.

Lately it seems that most of our time has been occupied with work around the house and some DIY. You might remember that some weeks ago we received an immense amount of raw material to build new kennels. Well, I am happy to let you know that the new kennels are ready! Though there are still some organizing work to do, like finding and rearranging some of the dog houses, but these are far less time consuming than building. And the design work is of course totally up to the new inhabitants of the kennels, they are pretty good in this in general.

Fighting with the never ending delays of the DogLog, we decided to publish a two-week edition. Luckily in and out traffic was very active, we built a stable and cured our lama, because Debi is sick again. But let’s also talk about something really good: we got lots of good news about the adopted puppies.

Sinclair Lewis said: „Winter is not a season, it's an occupation.”. Well, we abolutely agree with this sentence. As winter is getting closer it’s time to cover the dog houses with hay, we have to pay more attention to our proteges especially to the smaller ones with short hairs. … In the meantime our adopted dogs are coming in … and not leaving.

This week’s article starts with a surprising fact: we are omitting the “new dogs” column. It can be either positive or negative. It’s positive because we have a lack of space for new ones. And negative because last week the Dog Stop was advertised. This condition is going to be long, because new hosts are keeping off nowadays. I understand this, because we usually miss autumn before winter. But is it a real problem in giving a chance for our protégées for a better life? It’s a pity…

This was the week to make probably one of the most painful decisions in Noe’s life: we needed to announce a complete dog stop (that we cannot take any other dogs, regardless of their health status) because all our kennels, the places in the emegency, even places at the vet were full.

This week the number of newcomer dogs was manageable. We are over on a fox and a raccoon spaying. We also took party in the biggest party of the year-the traditional procession on the World day of Animals.
Those who were fast could walk with dogs from NOÉ, but others came with their own dog or other animals.

I was just a week ago complaining if any new dogs arrive we will literally not be able to put them anywhere ... and now we reached this exact point. Dogs flooded us, though at least some were bitches, and they are easier to find a place.

Unfortunately many dogs arrived this week but the Pet home is still full. Soon we will have no idea where to put these dogs. The department for sick animals works with 150%. Our vets are also working hard with a huge amount of dogs. Our kennels are overcrowded. The homes of our volunteers are also full. Some of them have 10-15 dogs now. And the cold weather is just coming…

This week was about finishing up before the Aid concert. The oranizers were nervous, they weren’t seen without their mobile phones on their ears or they were in front of their laptop (with their phones on their ears) or they were coordinating the actions on the scene. A lot of our volunteers helped us on Saturday. Thanks to everybody who were there!

Since summer holiday ends many-many new hosts have arrived to the gate of NOÉ Pet home. Let’s see some among the lucky dogs:
Rotor found a new home in Germany. He feels well. He has immediately found a new friend, the old dog in the family. He also gets on well with the cat. At the beginning he started to hunt for the chickens but later on he understood that it’s forbidden.
He is sleeping next to the legs of the hosts. He was trying to sleep in the bed as well, but he was dissuaded.

It seems that everyone is on vacation or just enjoys the last free weekend of August….no potential new owner, not even a single visitor came. Even on Saturday no one came, so we had a very cozy and familial weekend, with only those volunteers who are anyway there every weekend. Still, the day was very active.

Summer is over now. It’s an experience of several years that in August people come back from holiday and they adopt much more pets than earlier during summer. This week not less than 9 dogs were adopted. Usually people were searching for puppies because they would have the chance to grow up their pets. People can adopt puppies (both male and female) with an obligation of spaying. So we hope that those pets who were adopted from us won’t make more difficult situation in animal protection.
