Doglog 23-29. 08. 2010.
2010.08.30.

We had a lot to do this week, as not only the usual animal-related tasks, but a new project was also waiting for us: a playground for children was built in the animal shelter! And, of course, plenty of animals were coming and going this week, as always.

Two new dogs were taken to the shelter:

Csoma is a young baegle-basset mixed breed, he was found at Kőrösi Csoma Road in the 10th district. Those who found him agreed to house him temporarily. He has no chip or any other identifier. For two weeks we are looking for his original owner only!

Samu is a young mixed breed who came to us from the waiting list. He is a little bit shy, but we hope he will feel better soon.

Even though we don't take in cats officially, as there is simply no more room left, a lot of abandoned cats had to be housed again.

Boxos, Dézi and Nyami (Yummy) are siblings, ca. 2 months old:

Dáma (Lady), Mylady, Gyöngy (Pearl) and Amazon are also siblings and of the same age:

Csomag (Pack) is a 3-year-old female who was pregnant when we took her in; she was found at a parking lot behind a fast food restaurant. She was neutered, and luckily she is in a good health. She is a very friendly little cat who loves to be cuddled and purrs immediately when she sees a human being approaching.

Unfortunately, two of the new cats died as they came to us in a very bad condition:

Pimpa was a young kitten, probably a Siamese mixed breed. She had been hit by a car and suffered severe injuries: there were several fractures on her spine and pelvis. As the vet conlcuded that her recovery is impossible, we let her cross the Rainbow Bridge.

Mucus was a black-and-white female. She was very weak when we took her in. Although we took her to the vet immediately, it was already too late: she died in the vet's waiting room...

Hógolyó (Snowball) is a 2-year-old neutered bunny. He is very friendly, gets on well with humans, and lived in a flat until now.

Unfortunately, two of our little kittens left us forever. Kuksi's and Jenny's little bodies were unabale to fight the feline rhinotracheitis infection...

Liszka the cat suddenly fell ill and was found dead next morning.

Betti the dog was taken home by her original owner. It was clear that the owner loves her and will take care of her after this incident, so we let the dog go home after neutering and vaccination.

Bogáncs (Thistle), Lord, Sárika, Bátor (Courage), Csucsu and Ashiba found their new homes! Ashiba was accompanied with Alfréd, a dog confiscated from Dabas, who now found a temporary home at Ashiba's adopters'. Tura and Panino go to their new home together. Panino was a little bit problematic as he was not willing to accept other family members than the man he chose as his new master, but we hope things will settle and Panino will adapt to the new environment.

Some kittens also found their new families: Honey, Rasputin (he was taken home by his original owner, who will continue the cat's medical treatment), Dáma, Amazon, Berci, Kyra and Gerjén moved to a new home.

Unfortunately our dog Lady was diagnozed with epilepsy. There are still some tests left, however, we are now looking for a temporary adopter for her, because she cannot be housed together with other dogs at the moment (it is fairly possible that the others would misinterpret her seizures for aggressive behaviour which can have tragic consequences). In the animal shelter it is almost impossible to house her alone or keep her under continuous supervision.

Ágoston (Augustine) had name day! On this occasion his fan, Fruzsi gave him a little gift:

The boys had a hard time this week, as plenty of work had to be done. They finished the EU-conform playground for children that we won in a tender. Well, we didn't hesitate much: the work was done in one day!

The construction works began in the morning:

...and it's done!

The children of our volunteers immediately gave it a try – even though the slide was not big enough for everyone... :)

With the help of pur volunteers our open-air stage now has an antifreeze, non-skidding coating.

The opening ceremony for the stage and the playfround will be held 18 September 2010. Everyone's welcome!

Thank you for your donations:

Some news from our adopters:

Hi there!
Here we come again with some news about Pocakos (Belly). Mood: excellent, weight: 11.5 kg, appetite: unsatisfiable! The young lady is more and more willing to eat dry dogfood, so that's what she has for breakfast (she has a special method to eat this: she takes 2-3 pieces out, takes them to somewhere else and eats them there). I usually prepare some cooked food for her for the dinner, rice and some carrots are also on the menu now, but of course, it is always mixed with bone soup or liver paste. Bigger pieces of bones as well as dog crackers are always hidden or dug somewhere in order to prevent the evil cats to steal them.
We discovered the type of delicacy she likes the best: she is crazy for those little meaty bars. We break them up into little pieces and use them in training: if she does something well, she gets a piece. She is very clever and improves fast, she learned the command “sit” in one day! It took her also only a couple of days to learn how to stop and sit down at the edge of the sidewalk.
These pieces of delicacy are also useful when we teach her how to play. At the first time she didn't really understand what we wanted from here with all those frisbees, balls and other toys. Sometimes when she was really excited she forgot that she was a well-behaving dog lady and played around a little bit with some of the plush toys, but only very rarely. Now, however, I discovered that the meaty bars also give motivation for a game: I throw away the plush duck and if she brings it back, she gets a piece. This is a game enjoyed by us all, and my little daugther Emma usually laughs a lot when we do this. You see, it's not only men whose heart can be won through their stomachs... By the way, these meaty bars must be really tasty, as every dog who we meet during the walkings sniffs at my pockets like crazy...
Pocak is more and more relaxed and now we know each other very well. She always knows if we are about to leave, then she sits on the top of her house and guards the house, and when we come back she is unbelievably happy. Sometimes we take her with us, which also makes her euphoric. Last week we visited the bear shelter at Veresegyház; she was really curious about the big, brown “dogs” who live there.
I send some pics of the meadow where we take here for a walk every evening. She really enjoys these one or two hour long trips!
Best wishes to all!

Dear Noah :) and all the people who work in the shelter! :)
We adopted the little dog Bongó (now we call him Rocco) in December 2009. He became a big, beautiful, sweet and happy dog, who resembles a Catalonian shepherd. We love him a lot, here are some pics we took on our trip to the Mátra mountains recently.
All the best to all of you!
Rita Dávid

Hi there!
I send some pics and report with great pleasure that Bubi (alias Pedro), the dog we adopted from your shelter, is fine and happy! We spent almost the whole summer at my mother's in a big family house, where Pedro and a cat became good friends.
Cheers,
Gergő
