Doglog 09.05.2010
2010.05.13.

We celebrated the International Workers’s Day with work, as usual. Luckily the weather on Saturday was as fine as all week. Just like the big spring cleaning the other day, this weekend was also dedicated to DIY, painting and cleaning.

We were very happy to see how many people came to walk our dogs, who were, of course, enthusiastic about the visitors as always.

The week after was dedicated to the 3rd Happy Boxer and Bulldog Party. Please let me say some words in praise of this event. Probably not many of our readers know that I myself adopted two wonderful dogs from our Boxer Rescue Team, and also worked as a temporary boxer adopter for a while. So it is not surprising that I was really looking forward to this event. But while we were making the final preparations for the party, the everyday life of the shelter went on.

Animals who came under our care this week:

The Buborék (Bubble) family. The mother is a middle-sized, tricolor female; she came to us with her four puppies. The pups are ca 5 weeks old, all of them are females, and have a German shepherd-like look. Their names:

-Theodora
-NaturAqua
-Margit
-Jana

We are very grateful to Ági who temporarily took them under her care until their vaccnation is finished. Unfortunately one of the pups died but the surviving three are healthy.

Vacak is an 8-month-old male who was thrown out of a car in Pest. He is very friendly and loves to be cuddled. He is used to being transported by car and walks nicely on the leash. He is also litter trained. He is vaccinated, chipped and neutered, and looking for a loving owner.

Bella was found in Miskolc. Her left hind leg is injured, she is under medical care. It is certain that she’s going to have to get a special medical diet for a long while. As she is very young it will be easy to socialize her. She will be small or middle-sized as an adult. We would like to give her to an owner who knows how much trouble a puppy can cause and has the patience to litter-train her, to teach her how to walk on leash etc.

Tip and Top were running up and down on a road with heavy traffic; one of our volunteers took them to us. For two weeks we are looking for their ORIGINAL owner!

Carry was found at Rákoskeresztúr-Városközpont, running among the cars. She is a very friendly, somewhat timid labrador. For two weeks we are looking for her ORIGINAL owner!

Nati was found January 2010. The family who took her in looked for her original owner for a while but they are unable to keep her any longer. She came to us from the waiting list. She is very friendly, human-oriented, walks nicely on leash.

Yukon and Inny were left at the gates of the shelter. They are very active, playful and interested in their enviroment. As they are very young it will be easy to socialize them. They will be small or middle-sized as adults. We would like to give them to an owner who knows how much trouble a puppy can cause and has the patience to litter-train them, to teach them how to walk on leash etc.

Gara was born in 2003. She was adopted from us 5 years ago but now she is under our care again, so she is looking for another owner. She is friendly and attached to people, walks nicely on leash. We would like to give her to a family who already have another dog to keep her company.

Shakespeare was found in the 10th district, running beside a road – maybe after a car. For two weeks we are looking for his ORIGINAL owner!

Unfortnately we suffered a great loss this week: Igló left us. We took him in 2 December 2008, after that he had been hit by a car at Vasgereben street. The man who hit him got out of his car, examined the bumper and left without looking at the dog. He was in a very bad shape, the vets were pessimistic; even though the X-ray did not show a spine break, it was hypothesized that his spine must have been injured since his hind legs were paralyzed. After several months of rehabilitation he got a little bit better, but only temporarily. Those who knew Igló know he was fighting all along, but at the end he gave up. We are very sorry that we couldn’t give him anything more. Good bye, Igló!

Some of our residents found a new owner:

A member of the Kolompár family

One of the Volkswagen girls, Liza, Zeus and Takk

Georgia

A member of the Gyáli family, Gigi, and one of the Dobozos puppies

Birizga

Pedro from the Pataky family now goes to sleep with his new family

And Sunny, Teca and Gilda also found their new families.

On Friday we were quite nervous after finishing the shopping and the preparations for the party. Our main concern was, of course, the weather. We had been checking the weather forecast every day for a month. The forecast said there would be rain all day. But we knew: the Happy Boxer and Bulldog Party cannot be cancelled because of bad weather! And luckily it wasn’t.

Our team started working on Sunday very early in the morning; the first visitors arrived around 9 a.m. Our mood turned better and better as we saw those many familiar faces, dogs and adopters alike.

During the breaks András provided us with music; the visitors were entertained with a nice bellydance presentation and the Pestlőrinc Dog Training School also presented itself with a short show.

Then, as the beauty contest for dogs began, it started raining with cats and dogs. Luckily it lasted only for half an hour, and not many people left the party.

Then the day continued as scheduled. Both the beauty and the agility contest attracted many visitors. At the end of the day the awards and gifts were given and we celebrated to two of our staff members who had birthday.

We would like to thank the judges for their participation, Viktor and Márk for the dinner and everyone who was there for making this day shaping out nicely. Congratulations to the lottery winners as well as to the winners of the beauty and agility contests, and many thanks to ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEERS! You’re the best! 

Hopefully we’ll meet again on the 4th Happy Boxer and Bulldog Party next year!
