Doglog 17.04.2010
2010.04.20.

During the last two weeks we had to make all the preparations for the 2nd Meeting of our Dog Adopters that was held this Sunday.

As always, a number of animals came under our care this week. Let’s see the new residents of the shelter!

Gáli is a Retriever mixed breed bitch who was confiscated from homeless people living in the forest of the Kispest area. It is not clear whether she was born there or just joined the people. She seems pregnant. The sight of the collar and the leash made her panic, we had to sedate her in order to take her to the shelter. Her tail is stumpy, but she has no injuries.

Bebe was originally found by animal friends at the bus garage in Kispest in June 2009. He is a very affectionate dog who loves to be cuddled and petted. Usually he is calm and relaxed, however, he sometimes becomes impatient when walking on a leash. He is very intelligent, learns quickly and loves to eat. He knows the basic commands. We don’t have any experience about how he behaves with children but he is friendly towards other dogs (even though he had some smaller conflicts with other males). He is more than enthusiastic when it comes to females. The ideal master would be a man or a strong and determined woman. He seems to be used to living in a garden but he is litter trained. Now he is vaccinated and got anti-parasitic treatment. He would be a perfect guard dog.

The Shopska family was found behind a container box at a marketplace. The mother is not older than one year, the puppies are only 2 weeks old. They are looking for a temporary adopter.

Galiba was found in Visegrád. He came under our care from the waiting list. He still doesn’t trust people. His vaccination is in progress. He is neutered and chipped, and waiting for adoption.

The original owners of Devlon, Ivanhoe and Aunt Cili were fund.

Apart from these, our week was devoted to the preparations for the events on Sunday. Luckily, the wheather was fine and sunny. The volunteers went to the shelter early on Sunday morning to put everything straight. The first visitors arrived around 10 a.m.

The parking attendants helped the visitors at the gates.

A number of presentations and dancing programs took place, with great success. Thank you for everyone who participated!

In the Children’s Corner, face painting was the favourite game.

The children, of course, helped us by the lottery as well.

This day, altogether 15 of our dogs found a new owner. We wish a happy family life for all of them!

We hope you didn’t forget about the upcoming events!

24 April (Saturday) a big spring cleaning will be organized at the shelter. All enthusiastic animal lovers who are willing to meet the challenge are welcome!

The most important tasks:
1. Renovation of the doghouses.
Some of the houses were literally chewed apart by the residents.

2. Earthworks
Our dogs are simply crazy for digging – and as a result, huge pits are everywhere.

3. Cutting off the dry-rotten branches.
These can be dangerous as they tend to fall off by themselves in case of a storm.

4. Painting.
Paint and brushes will be provided by the Novartis Ltd.

Those of you who can bring some tools, please do so, or notify us in which task you would like to participate so that we can provide the necessary equipment. Hammer, saw, spade, shovel and hacker are indispensible equipments for the restauration of doghouses.
Everybody’s welcome!

A Donation Concert will take place in the "After" Music Club.

9 May (Sunday) the 3rd Happy Bulldog Party will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the shelter. Everybody’s most welcome, including your dogs, regardless of their age, color, sex, or the length of their tails and ears! We hope that many will come who are interested in this wonderful, human-loving dog breed.

No entrance fees. All animal lovers are welcome!

Our supporters: Araamu Travel, Daylong, Ebugatta, Eukanuba, Garmin, www.keverekkutya.hu, KozmoDisk, Noah’s Ark Supporters’ Club, the Pestszentlőrinc Dog Training Center and Purina.

Tentative program:
- dogatlon: funny competition for dogs
- beauty contest: not only for the pure breed!
- Photo corner: take a photo with your favourite bulldog!
- Dog show: a short presentation of the Pestszentlőrinc Dog Training Center
- Bellydance
- Making a gulash
- Lottery

Please remember that the program is not final. A DJ will serve us the music during the breaks.

Please remember that if you bring your dog along, you must show the certificate of vaccination upon entering. Only healthy, socialized dogs without parasites and with vaccination no older than one year are allowed to enter the animal shelter. A collar and a leash is a must. Please make the necessary precautions against tick infection. Thank you for your cooperation.

The animal shelter can be accessed from Péceli Road in the 18th district, on Korsó street up to the hill. The dirt road on the left leads to the gate of the shelter.

15 May the 1st Meeting for Dog Lovers will be held at Rákosmente, with a drawing contest for children. Read the details HERE!

Don't forget that the animal shelter is open also on Sunday, all animal friends are welcome between 10 am and 14 pm. All we ask for is, if you would like to walk one of our dogs, bring a leash with you, as we do not have enough!

We would like to draw your attention to a new way to support us!
You can help by clicking and using a Google-based searching site, as well as by making this site: http://keresve.hu/noeallatotthon your home page. This does not cost a penny, all you have to do is to click!

This is a broadly used and accepted method of support abroad which is, however, new in Hungary. By using this page as your home page, you influence the amount of money the site receives from advertisements, and through this, the amount of money that is given to the shelter. The keresve.hu site gives an opportunity to those who do not have the necessary financial sources, time or energy, to support the shelter. Please support us by using this free way of donation!

The money the site's owner (World Development Foundation) receives from advertisements is distributed among the registered civil organizations (and among them, our shelter) according to the visitors' votes. The statistics of the site will be publicly available.
