A car full of dogs heading for heart ultrasound!
2022.07.31.

Once again, we arrived with a full car to Dr. Dalma Péterfia for cardiology and echocardiogram examinations with our dogs who have heartworms.

5 Noah's Animal Shelter Foundation protegés were examined:
🐾 Zsuzska was shot in the spine and because of this our little dog is unfortunately in a terrible condition. In fact, she has so many adult heartworms in her pulmonary artery, very close to her heart, that she needs almost immediate heart surgery. We are starting a complex drug therapy consisting of 2 types of expensive cardiology drugs (Vetmedin and Sildenafil), steroids and alternative treatment for the heartworms.
🐾 Cosmo is a chau-chau, who disproves all prejudices with her kindness and cooperativeness ❤ Fortunately, in her case there are no cardiological abnormalities and the ultrasound scan does not show adult heartworms close to the heart. However, the AG tests clearly confirm the presence of adult heartworms in his lung vessels. We are starting her on an alternative drug treatment.
🐾 Magor the cane corso, our beautiful blue giant. He melted us, he was so sweet, kind and patient through today's examination. He had bilateral pelvic surgery earlier, he is still recovering from that. Thank goodness he has no cardiological abnormalities and no worms visible in the area seen by the echocardiogram. His PCR scan has shown that he has heartworm and skinworm infections and adult worms. Unfortunately, in such a large dog it is likely that, although they are not yet visible near the heart, they may be present in large numbers in the pulmonary arteries. We will also start alternative drug therapy on him.
🐾 In the case of our bulldog named Bell, the infection is so advanced that adult worms have been seen in the ultrasound field of view. Fortunately, there is no irreversible cardiac abnormality yet, so we can start medication in time.
🐾 Our bulldog Lola had her umpteenth check-up today. She was clearly in a life-threatening condition at the beginning of the year. The heartworms were attached to her heart valve. Complex drug therapy and things started to get better. Unfortunately, she is now showing signs of cardiac damage, some of which will be with her for the rest of her life, and therefore will need to be on heart medication for life. To add insult to injury, her 'bulldog' condition meant that she had a terribly long soft palate and almost impenetrable narrow nostrils. This was double corrected a few months ago and she is breathing much better, but in this heat she is choking badly, which is aggravating her severe heartworm disease. She also needs to continue on the 3 types of heart medication and heartworm medication. In a few months she will have to be taken for another check-up.
These few lines I have written here represent a monthly use of medication in the order of hundreds of thousands of forints. Today's round of tests , with echocardiograms and other additional tests cost 110.000Ft.
We talk a lot about heartworm disease, but somehow it is still treated as a distant thing by most people. When we talk about heartworm treatments, tests or even surgery, we hardly get any reaction, sharing or support. 🙁 And yet the situation is getting worse, the number of severely infected dogs is increasing and the costs of testing and treatment are rising. We can protect owner dogs with regular screening, prevention and proper control. But many of the orphaned, stray animals that end up in shelters are in huge trouble because of this. We are asking you to help us raise the money to pay for them!

Please support their recovery!
