Dog Log 27.01-16.02.2014
2014.03.13.

Oooops we slipped a little bit, fortunately spring has arrived, so not on ice but with the submission deadline of our webdiary. But, better late than never, isn’t it? In our animal shelter the last weeks have been really eventful.

Spring is here, irrevocable and unstoppable. At least we really hope that finally we can get out the NOE T-shirts and pullovers tucked into the bottom of the wardrobe and can replace with them the jackets and winter coats. Our little inhabitants are also very happy about the new weather because it means more frequent and longer walks, excursions and loads of stroke. Not to mention that it is the best fun to roll in the fresh grass.

But sitting in the wheelbarrow carrying rags is also not bad. At least, according to Szakáll.

By the way our protégées think that the wheelbarrow is a special transport means for them as they were often caught waiting for the departure in it.

While our protégées were spending their time cheerfully lounging or walking, life went on for us as well. Fortunately, the last few weeks have been dominated by adoptions; people may
have become more adventurous or decided to change their life style. Anyway, thanks to this more dogs waiting their turn on the waiting-list are now available for adoption.

Lady Ann, born in about 2010, belonging to the absolute hopeless category - black cross breed female – could be removed from the waiting-list. The Circle of Animal Friends Public Association asked for our help, they rescued her from the local death row.

Shiva, born in 2012, tiger striped, short-haired boxer- like young female was handed in by her owner. She spent her whole life in a garden, and her owners did not really care about her. She was in a rather bad condition when coming to our care, she was bone skinny. Shiva tends to be dominant toward other dogs but she adores people. We offer her for adoption in a flat or in a house with garden with admittance into the house.

We were asked to help a dog kept in very bad conditions and in chains from Nyíregyháza. Gina, born in about 2007, is a yellow, cut tailed boxer-like female. Life did not broke her, she remained a very nice and friendly dog, who loves being pampered, stroked, and her only wish is to be among people. And if the desired person is on the other side of a fence she does not hesitate to jump over it. No fence can stop her. We give her for adoption in a flat or in a
house with garden with admittance into the house.

Berlingo Beni, born in March 2011, is a special poppy-patterned stained big statured male. The Berlingo family was left beside our parking car at the gate of the shelter. In the summer of 2011 the tiny Beni could feel himself lucky because a family adopted him. The owner obliged himself by signing the adoption contract to spay and vaccinate the puppy and register the microchip. Recently the Sad Heart Animal Rescue Service has informed us that they found a dog in Gyömrő registered under the name of the shelter. (The dog turned out to be Beni.)

We tried to reach the owner and ask for an explanation but to his good luck he was not available. Of course we started the legal proceedings!

Apart from these Beni is a big teddy bear who is not bothered about his size and jumps into everyone’s neck.

Puby is a chow-chow like male dog handed in by a “breeder”. He is a bit shy but becomes easily relaxed in exchange for our kindness and patience. Puby is changing his teeth now and can be around 6-month-old.

Boci Bori was picked up from the main road by animal friends. Her brother/sister was also captured there but s/he found an owner quickly.

Boci Bori, born in November, is a female puppy. S/he is playful, lively and exuberant, so a typical puppy

Calippo, the 3-month-old female puppy was left in the stairway of the building in which one of our long-term volunteers lives – we think not by chance.

We can accept dogs from the waiting-list only in case one of our inhabitants is lucky enough to find an owner. This was the case with Rosso, who can consider himself very lucky. After spending only a half year at the shelter (which is quite a short time for a dog that likes escaping) he could move to a dream family in Germany. He loves every member of the family, especially the grandma. Have a happy life nice boy!

Hope also could find an owner after a relatively short time spending with us:

Katedra Fizika is a very lucky dog. The adopter of Matek thought one dog was no dog so after some days he returned for Fizika. So the bros live their life together.

You may still remember Nari. She was pregnant when we found her, then she suffered a spontaneous miscarriage and got into a life-threatening condition. Nari recovered but her
tiny soul could not really adapt to the shelter life. Many of us tried to bring her home but unfortunately everybody was full. But a nice Angel managed to give her shelter temporarily and we knew that there would be a failure here. A failure to resist Nari She has become a real couch dog. There’s not even a trace of the terrified, broken-hearted little girl.

Borsika is the other dog who made her conquest. Borsika happened to be falling in love, but not in anyone! Her choice was Misi, the shelter’s handyman, who has been working in the shelter for more than 20 years! This case is really special because during these 20 years no dog could soften Misi’s heart like this. Misi was protesting for weeks when asked when he would take the little “magnet” to home. The answer was always that he would bring a large dog if he decided to bring home one. But Borsika kept on following him more and more persistently and finally we recognized that after one day’s work he packed not only his usual bag but left with a dachshund under his arm.

Tyson Todor was adopted by a young couple and we have received a picture about him lying on the couch. Well, luck really favoured him!

Find an owner too: Ejnye, Biscuit Mese, Tangó és Pakolás mama Negrita had her neutering operation and her owners came to sign the final adoption contract.

Not only the number of dogs has changed recently, but also our herd has a new member.

Gipsy King, 14-year-old neutered trotter, was handed in by his owner. And as usual here he is multiply disadvantaged. He’s totally blind in both eyes; according to the vet he perceives shadows. His legs are very worn out, aching. He rests a lot in the box, if he can. At his previous place he spent the nights standing, tied and was out in the paddock only during the day. He’s very happy that here he can move freely, can lie down at night as he is in the largest box. Due to his blindness he can’t live in a herd as the others would hurt him. During the day he will live with Debi in the blind horse paddock, and at nights in the box.

Unfortunately we don’t have just good news about our herd. Birs cought a bad cold and the vet prescribed him expectorants. Fortunately, a lot of people sent us ACC in response to our Facebook post and we would like to thank everyone for this. In the meantime Carmen also joined the ACC consumers’ group, but she could get enough from Birs’ medicine. Birs seems to be recovering, Carmen is still on medicines, but apparently she is better now.

Parázs, our dog, was adopted some years ago. Now he’s sent us some photos how good he feels with his new family.
Pepi also sent a fresh photo of himself straight from Germany.

Recently a group of very nice kids visited us. The 3b class of Grassalkovich Antal German National and Bilingual Primary School in Vecses organized a collection for our Shelter and
they gave it to us personally. Thank you all!

And finally here’s this week’s cute pic. It seems the office has not yet heard about spring. Kökény is the pillow, T-rex is the princess on the throne and Tapsifül, who is just longing for a comfortable armchair.
