This week donations for the animals living in our shelter kept coming. The shelter made a public announcement at the beginning of February that the supply of our ca. 650 animals was in danger as our food resources were depleted and we faced day-to-day problems feeding our animals.

This announcement was meant to be a cry for help, and we would never have expected that so many people would respond to it. Most probably there has never been such a support and coopoeration of animal lovers in Hungary.

Donators were coming one right after the other, waiting in a long cue just to drop their gifts. After the announcement was made our phones were constantly ringing as supporters were calling us to offer their help. The number of virtual adoptions and the amount of money transferred to our bank account significantly increased.

It has been an unbelievable experience to see the love and support we've got from the helping, generous community of animal lovers, and to hear their encouraging words.

Once again, thank you very much on behalf of our animal residents!

In this big turmoil Suzy, who got under our care only recently due to family problems, found a new owner. Now she lives in a big family house with a garden, and spends the nights inside. The other dogs of her new family were already waiting for the newcomer to arrive. The family members were not complete strangers for her as they had already visited her before her adoption. Suzy must have known that it was a special day, since she greeted her new family with great joy at the moment they arrived at the shelter to pick her up.

Our dog Neo also found an owner. He came under our care November 2009, together with the dog we named Merlin. He was also on good terms with his new owners already, since they had visited him and walked with him a number of times before adopting him. Now he lives in a flat.

Kis Manó (Little Goblin) had a lucky week. First he moved to one of our volunteers, and after a couple of days to a permanent adopter, who is a childhood friend of the volunteer who housed him, so we will be kept posted about him in the futue. Now we know for sure that both the dog and the new owner are very happy together. We wish good luck and happiness for both!
We received some news about Ada, our dog who was adopted 3 years ago, and who is still happy and sound. Her new family simply loves her and they are still grateful for this perfect little dog!
A member of the Báró (Baron) family visited us. He seemed very happy with his new family!

A female beagle came under our care. She was picked up by an animal lover on a road in the 17th district. Thank goodness, her rightful owner was found the next day, and both the dog (whose name, as it turned out, is Bijou) and her owner were very relieved to see each other again.
Beside these, Csuklyás (Hooded) came under our care. His full story will be available soon!

During the weekend, a number of volunteers represented our shelter on the two-days Animal Fair in the Petőfi Sports Stadium. On Saturday a lady met one of our dogs, Kópia (Copy) there, and fell in love with her right away, so she came to our shelter the next day and as she turned out to be a perfect candidate for adoption, she adopted the dog.

There were a number of people interested in our work and especially in the ways to become a volunteer and an adopter. Candidates for future adoption of cats and dogs also asked for contact information. Teachers and day-care nannies asked us about the opportunity of visiting the shelter with groups of small children. Our dogs received much caress and good words, and our rodent rescue team also had a successful day: many 4-5 year old children came to see and caress the pet rats. It was good to see that their generation might have a different attitude to these animals and nature in general.

We would like to thank the Noah's Ark Supporters' Club, our beloved Daddy Bear, who helped us with transporting the animals, and everyone who were present at the animal fair, for their work. Thank you!

There was no cigarette break on the cats' front, either; Kréta (Chalk) was adopted along with Nina. Our little cat Körte (Pear), whom we expected to remain with our permanent resident, finally found an owner, and despite all our expectations, she became a tame and friendly little creature.

The cat Karácsony (Christmas) also found a family. Now she lives in a flat, but there is a small kennel in the garden for cats at her new home. We wish her love and happiness!

Our new cats:

Paula is a white female, ca. 4 months old. She was found in the inner districts of the city, injured; her right hind leg was torn off. Probably she crawled under the engine hood of a car to find shelter from the cold, and was still inside when the engine was started. She had to have a surgery but no she passed mortal peril. She is a very kind, friendly and playful little cat, whom we will give only to a new owner who can keep her in a flat.

Three cats, whose owner was taken into custody, were brought to us by the police. They are not ready for adoption yet.

New residents in our Mini Shelter:

Kinder is a male pug that was brought to us injured. We thought he must have been hit by a car as both his hind legs were lame. After a full diagnostic and an X-ray examination it became clear that his spine is not broken and he has no slipped disk. It is very probable that he had an older spine injury that was left untreated and that's the reason for his limping. He has no sensation either in his paw, his leg or his toes. He has been treated for acute spine injuries which must be repeated once again, and after that he will go on a two-week long cure on steroids. We can only hope that the process is reversible and his recovery is still possible.

Odessa came under our care 9 February 2010, from the dogcatcher's at Illatos Road. She is a 6-7 year-old mixed breed, looks like a german shepherd. She is easy with walking on leash, and friendly with other dogs. She is calm while traveling in the car, and completely litter-trained.

And Brandon, a male black and tan toy terrier. He is young, friendly, walks nicely on leash, enjoys dog company and does not scare the cats away; he is also litter-trained. His fur needs some care, but it is quite probable that his temporary adopter has given him a bath already...

Gyáli Gyuri (George from Gyál) and Kópia (Copy) found their new homes.

Our boxer rescue team had a successful week, as Makepiece found a new owner (pictures of her are coming soon). Some news about her:
“We christened her Tündér (Fairy), because she really is a little fairy! A nice little girl, litter-trained, has an enormous appetite and sleeps (that is, snorks) during the whole night. In the morning she wakes her owners with a quiet breathe on their faces. She is loved indeed, and has no shortage of caresses. She is still a little bit scared if left home alone, she tosses the flowerbases from the windows and tries to go with her family, but she is slowly getting used to be alone.”
