Boldy is gone

Yesterday we have let Boldy, our German shepherd male with a broken pelvis pass through the Rainbow Bridge.

It was clear after the control radiography that his tail was practically torn off from the rest of his vertebral column and the nerves were injured. As a consequence, he had no control over defecation and urination, and was unable to excrete. This condition would have caused a serious damage to the kidneys on the long run, as due to the lack of conscious urinating only the urine which was pressed through the urethra by the overfillment of the bladder left his body.

He was narcotized during the radiography but he was still in such pain that at the moment the vet wanted to place his leg in the proper position he started to cry out from pain, even though he had no pupil reflex due to the narcosis.

The vet did not want to wake him up anymore but we insisted to consult other specialists as well. We discussed the possibilities of other treatments and surgeries with three further veterinarians but all of them agreed there was no cure for Boldy. Had we kept him alive. he could have lived for two or three months more but in constant pain. We did not want to put him through this, the poor creature suffered more than enough.

Thank you to everybody who tried to help Boldy: those who found him and took him to us at Christmas, the family from Érd who visited him regularly in the hospital and at our shelter, to everybody who donated money for his surgeries and medical treatment, and of course to all who visited him at the Noah's Ark Hospital, caressed him, turned and cleaned his body and gave him strength to recover.

Boldy was a blessed good dog. He was always happy, he was very nice with everybody, and he took the torture and the treatment without protest.

Rest in peace our old friend; there will be no pain anymore.
