Here are some heavy-hearted thoughts. He's Grimm in the picture, we gave him that name back when we weren't crushed by the heavyness of his diagnosis...
The football fans for Animals Foundation asked us to help him, they brought him to us, and of course he was immediately hospitalised at the Csipet Csapat Veterinary Centre.
How is he? He is in trouble, very big trouble! His former owner, who gave him up, said that his tail had been stuck somewhere for about 3 weeks. He didn't take him to the doctor, but he put some babypowder on him...
Grimm is 13 years old, hasn't had a vaccine in years, he's got fleas all over him. His tail is brutally ulcerated, inflamed, swollen, infested with flies and swarming with maggots. It's almost certainly was not stuck somewhere, it's grossly cancerous, it's already ulcerated, it's very - very painful.
What is a huge problem is that it seems to have spread to the rectal area, so now there seems to be no surgical solution. 😢😡💔
As the area is now grossly inflamed and edematous from lack of treatment and because of the worms, we have agreed with our doctors to give it a few days. With full pain relief and with medication, we will see if it will better next week. If it is indeed an injury, he should respond and we'll see what we can do with him. If it's a tumor, we can't give him a solution, just a decent release without pain. We will decide on this with our doctors in a few days.
