The "big vaccination day"!
2020.06.03.
Due to the Corona virus our "big vaccination day" has been postponed to June. It is an important day for our farmyard animals. On this day they are vaccinated, dewormed and their hooves are trimmed. Since we are talking about a few hundred animals it needs to be organized and coordinated before hand. It is a team work our vets Dr. Péter Kertész (exotic animal vet) , Dr. Ági Farkas (horse vet), Tamás Verőczei (technician in the Budapest Zoo) and our team worked together all day long. ❣️🙏 The goal was to vaccinate, deworm and draw blood for the necessary tests, give them manicures, pedicures and haircuts with as little stress as possible. We had to drug some of them, some received the shots with a blowpipe, some had to be caught with a net and some with food.
First our lama Peru had to have a haircut so he had to be sedated. Her also won the face of the day contest! ❤️
Next our wild boars got their shots and were dewormed. Some wanted to be scratched afterword and some wanted treats. Then came the goats whom we rounded up with nets. They received their shots, have been dewormed, examined and their hooves have been trimmed. They were followed by the sheep 🐑🐏 and they had the same treatment as the goats. The deers were vaccinated with the blowpipe🦌. The foxes and our golden jackal Bruce Willis came next and they were also vaccinated with the help of the blowpipe.
Last came our pigs. 🐷🐽🐖 We have about 80 smaller or bigger pigs living in 1,5 acre of farm yard so this was a heavy workout for ous. It is surprising that normally they lie around lazily but they can also run fast when you want something from them that they don't understand. They were vaccinated and dewormed with a scarificator so this was minimal stress for them. Pigs are wonderful, smart and very social animals. It is lovely to see how important they are to one another and how close they are to eachother. ❤️ It is sad to see that how popular it became to keep a pygmy hog at home like a dog or a cat... 😢😡
The "big vaccination day" has cost us about 200.000,- huf (about 550 euros). They also receive the highest quality vet care as well just like our dogs and cats.
