Alumínium Turns into a Butterfly
2015.08.03.
Alumínium is sheltered temporarily by Andi, our “dog whisperer” volunteer at the dog department, ’repairman’ of many traumatized dogs.
Her report is really interesting because we can follow Alumínium’s improvement day by day.
Day 1
I’m sitting here and just wondering what has happened to her during her roughly 1 year of living. Csivi is in my lap, but she is… She comes when I call her but changes her mind in the last steps. She turns backward. Hesitation can be seen in her face in every round she makes in her cage but she always ends up in the other corner. She is watching from there, with longing in her face, sometimes making a move, but always coming to a halt. But she is trying. Very much. A self-confident, happy, balanced bitch must be inside her but buried very deep. It is pleasant if I take her and we just sit next to each other but if I try to stroke her, her body gets tense. Maybe she has been hurt, maybe never truly loved, maybe she has no idea of an ideal dog-life or that stroking means something positive from a human. I promised her that we will learn everything.
I hate Mondays. Actually, I thought I did. It started like other Mondays. I got out of the bed; Molly was jumping, squeaking so we went downstairs. I took Csivi out of the cage and went inside. I squatted at the gate. Something has changed. Alu ran close beside me more than once. And when I squatted, the hated Monday turned into the best Monday ever. The dog that yesterday kept a meter distance, even when on a leash, ran next to me in the corner, brushed me and in the next round sniffed at my arm. She touched me with her nose. She did this in every round and suddenly just sat next to me. She was waiting but when I moved she ran away. We started over. I was squatting for another couple of minutes without moving and she sat again. And I touched her. She tried to run away but not desperately and although she did in the end, she let me to stroke her for some minutes before, and her heart wasn’t going to pop out. Then she ran away. This was just a few moments but a huge step for her. This made that Monday the best ever.
Such wonderful, heart melting moments, aren’t they? Feels like we are also part of them.
Go Alumínium, keep going Andi!
