Lately it seems that most of our time has been occupied with work around the house and some DIY. You might remember that some weeks ago we received an immense amount of raw material to build new kennels. Well, I am happy to let you know that the new kennels are ready! Though there are still some organizing work to do, like finding and rearranging some of the dog houses, but these are far less time consuming than building. And the design work is of course totally up to the new inhabitants of the kennels, they are pretty good in this in general.

We cannot emphasize well enough how grateful we are to KOZGEP ZRT. For their offer of iron materials – we really appreciate this, thanks again!

Of course, as usual, this week was not without newcomers or regressers:
Archer Cakó is a victim of irresponsible and unreliable adopters’. It came as a shock to hear that Cakó- after all that lovely dog had went through in Pécel - is wandering on the streets and is not let back to its home, so we immediately got there to take the poor animal. It goes without saying that we filed a report with the police against Cakó’s owners. Cakó is a 2011 born sand coloured mix boy with the most charming smile on earth – he is a bit shy but interested cutie.

Cakó is in fact is a fortunate dog – in spite all these horrifying stories – because he only spent a week at Noe before being adopted again, but only with a strict contract and there is a probation period for the new owners as well, which we hope to turn into a permanent ownership soon.

Hapi is a 14 years old purebred Caucasian whose owner died during the summer, so this remarkable dog remained alone. While his owner lived, Hapi had another dog, Manó, a mix German Shepherd, to live with, who has been with Noe since March because of being very active.

Being a robust dog looking good as a watchdog, Hapi could stay and the owners thought that the old dog would not last long anyways. But Hapi made the mistake of not dying by the end of summer, in fact he did not die by the end of autumn, but his physical status deteriorated fast. He could not stand up and had balance problems – yes, these are symptoms of getting old. This status obviously indicated that at some point medical assistance would be needed, moreover, he could die at the house where he was just a burden with increasing risk of getting pricy and problematic. So the owners decided to transfer the dog to Noe to avoid dealing with the old dog, but that lovely animal has little understanding of what is going on, why he is here with us and not with the place he lived all through his life. And we cannot tell anything to Hapi, we are just amazed by and adore this giant and lovely, lovely dog. He has reached a stage where he cannot move and got deaf and very slow compared to the rest of the world. He gradually gives up communication with others and is getting extremely introvert. Our heart is bleeding and we are doing our best to make him understand that here everyone loves him and this is a safe place to be. Unfortunately we cannot put him with Manó, because it turned out that both his hind legs’ ligaments are paralysed and he does not tolerate the presence of other dogs. Of course the ideal would be to have someone take Hapi and try to make his last few days nice again in a friendly family environment.

Hapi did not communicate with anyone for days, just sat in one corner of the kennel closed up to his own world. A number of our volunteers decided to pay special attention to Hapi, some only came to visit the old boy – with a nice portion of sausage. It seems that the therapy was pretty beneficial because as a result of the seemingly numberless visits and proper medication Hapi began to trust visitors, he is literally waiting of some petting and nice words, so on Saturday he had his firt ever Noe walk and he really-really enjoyed it.

And now let’s see some happier topics: yes, here come the adopted dog stories! Let’s begin with the two supertiny lapdog-terminators, Wasa Spenót and Sopánka. Sorry for the pics, it is difficult to take photos where such itsy-bitsy furballs are visible.

Those who are frequent visitors of the farmyard will most probably realize that one of the eloquent members of the welcome committee, Filkó has been adopted and from now is planning to hunt for legs at the entrance of his new home.

Mecsek is also very-very happy to move home with the new owners.

Kati got adopted by a young retried couple and seems to enjoy family life according to the first news.

Moreover, Nikita, Jampec and Tiramisu have been adopted as well, and, and yes, Pihe rabbit got adopted too, after being fixed.

We get an incredible amount of updates and photos our former protégés, read them with joy!

Dear Noe Shelter,
I have adopted Horgasz Busa (who later became Thor, after the German god, and then Bumbi, Pufi and so on) on 21 July, who now, on 25 November will be exactly a half year old grownup! To sum up this period I would send some pictures. Our family is in a frantic love with this incredibly smart and docile dog, in spite of the fact that as a puppy, he can be very nasty as well – of course no one can be angry with him. I just do not even take the effort to count how many toys and other stuff he has chewed accurately into the tiniest pieces, including some of the bush too. He has a good company to keep with: he plays hours with the other 3 dogs every night. He also put on some weight as well, for the initial 4.2 kgs he is now over 18 kgs, but this just means more mass I can love more! So synergy is complete, thanks for bringing us together, because he is the best that could ever happen to me. Check out the attachments to see how horrible his life is and thanks again all your work,

Dear Noe Shelter,
Archer Jagger has been with us for half a year now, and he is gradually recovering from the inflammation of stitches.
It might have earlier occurred to you as well back then how come that such a young puppy does not jump around the whole block. Well, the cause showed itself this October: the dog has torn ligaments in both of the hind legs and this is some kind of an old injury, a couple of years’ old. So it might be worth checking the rest of the Archer family, as this was not prominent with Jagger either. We thought that the awkward running was the result of the inflamed stitches, but one day Jagger just could not stand up. The vet said that it does not hurt any more, the dog learned to live with this, but the quality of his live would be increased radically if he was healed. At the end of October Jagger had his left hind leg operated and we are preparing for the other’s operation is January, after this one got strong enough. So we hope that he can jump around happily next March!
Besides this Jagger is a very happy – before his operation we took huge walks as he just loves those. He has a group to join every evening, he gets on nicely with everyone, though he likes to bark at large dogs. He might has a bit of inferiority complex, but we make our best to make him understand that big dogs will not attack him.

Dear Noe,
I am sending some pictures about the dog I adopted last June, with you the dog was called Lucky, now called Nagydobai Basa. After our thorough care of his ear infection he is healthy now, and loves to play a lot – he does indeed have a huge amount of energy. But at the same time Basa is an excellent watchdog, looks after the house properly and is grateful for all good word. His favourite toy is his plush wild duck, he already had torn one into pieces, so he was very happy to get a new one for his birthday.

I know, I know, I still owe you some pictures about Prezli (with you she was Mafla Maca), here they are! Sorry for the quality, but the dog has a built-in Duracell and unable to stop for a minute, so it is impossible to take even one picture of her. Thanks to some tricks I have some shots to share – these all about Prezli (and in some cases Lili, the stepmother) and you can just as well imagine the damages she made so far in the garden. All our thanks for this marvelous dog!

SRCE, or, a bit of Beni News!
Beni has grown a lot since being with us, both in size and in weight. Very floppy, very hyperactive, and very adorable . Unfortunately we have been through two epileptic seizures, but the vet is somewhat positive about this getting better, and sometimes there are problems with balancing, but this is minor. This pic was taken one night I laid down on the bed very tired – Beni immediately jumped on the bed and fell asleep with me.

Last week we visited the Újpest English Focus Primary School and had a session on responsible ownership with the kids. As you see here the dog was the chair while the attentive kids were taught how to be responsible owners. Thanks for inviting us!

But there is another Christmas present idea:
The book of Vilmos Csanyi: Dogs are furry Kids. The story of Bukfenc and Jeromos is not all about the life of two family dogs, but it also show how to examine in a proper scientific way the behaviour of dogs. This book is ideal for people interested in dog ethology without being brutally bored by the dry scientific bla-bla. The first edition was rapidly embraced and it was translated and published in the US and in German language territories. This is the third, modified version that includes some new facts about dogs and owners from recent years research from the ELTE Department of Ethology: for example, dogs like and succeed in imitating their owners. This is a very nice and interesting book, and thanks to Libri Publishing House, after all purchased Csanyi-books at Bookline 15% goes to Noe between 1 November and 30 December!

It sounds incredible, but there has been nothing outstanding happening around our horses. Debi had a pre-scheduled x-ray, but this is close to nothing and we also discussed with the vet who should be undergoing some dental treatment (Debi, Diana, Barbie). When his happens, we will come with pictures.
And if we are talking about horses we need to remind everyone not to look for the stage till spring, because it got a better place: it serves as the temporary rack for the horses’ hay.

We also have considerable amount of straw for the winter to keep our dogs warm and to put it under the horses.
