Dog Log 22.10-28.10.2012
2012.10.29.

Sinclair Lewis said: „Winter is not a season, it's an occupation.”. Well, we abolutely agree with this sentence. As winter is getting closer it’s time to cover the dog houses with hay, we have to pay more attention to our proteges especially to the smaller ones with short hairs. … In the meantime our adopted dogs are coming in … and not leaving.

The DOG STOP is still true but there are situations when we have no other chioce but to let helpless dogs in, especially if they were adopted from Noah’s….

Állatkerti Tarna was adopted from us when she was very young. We have recently received a phonecall from the owner that they were about to move and as they didn’t need the dog anymore they wanted to bring her back. We soon learnt that Tarna didn’t even have any kind of valid vaccination. We were mad but tried to stay calm and told the owner that make the dog have her vaccination and after that we would get her back. But the owner had an other idea and delivered Tarna to Illatos Road. As soon as we learnt that she was there we collected her from there. Of course this was the quickest and cheapest way for the ’responsible’ owner to get rid of the dog.

We found there and unsocial, unmanagable, untouchable dog. A worker at Illatos Road said that the only way they had been able to catch her was by a loop rod in the owners garden. Tarna calmed down after we arrived at the Shelter but she still growl when someone goes close. Leash and dog collar are unknown for her and neutering is obviously something that neither she nor her owner have never heard about.
Since she was adopted as a puppy, the agressive behaviour was caused by the owner. The only question we can ask: why the hell did they want this puppy?
Cédrus was born in 2009. He is a grey, male dog who arrived from Szomorú Szív Animal Saving Service from Gyömrő. He might be a Schnauzer mix but his face looks like a Chinese Crested Dog’s face. He hasn’t been able to use one of his back legs since he was a puppy.

Cédrus found an owner in 2011 and he could enjoy it for a year. Now he is back with us. … His owner lost his home and he can’t look after him anymore. 

Joe Cockert was found in Pomaniczky Street in the 4th District on 19th November 2011. He was tied up. As no one went for him for a long time he was taken to Noah’s Animal Shelter. One of his specific feature was that the hairs was missing from the top of his head. Unfortunately his original owner never turned up.
His hairs started to grow and he is very special, we can say sexy as where there was no hairs now there is white hairs.

He is a nice, devoted, obedient dog who follows his owner everywhere. In the same time he is very wayward and he may react agressively for things he doesn’t like. For example when he is at the vet or the beautician. In this case he barks loudly an says people had better leave him alone and he doesn’t want the procedure. He walks well on dog leash and he loves hiking. He behaves very well in cars. His hairs needs to be combed and cut regularly. He gets on well with other dogs and animals.
He has already been adopted but he was brought back as they said he was impracticable. The future owner has to be aware that adopting Joe Cocker means they have to meet and know each other several times before the adoption. We want to find him an owner who can handle his self-will and who can love him enough to forgive his tantrums and won’t bring him back becuse of it. Please sign in only if you are sure you can live with a dog like him.

Irinát was simply left at the gate of our Shelter. We want to think that someone who found him thought it’d be the best solution and as he/she couldn’t find a better way but leaving her in front of our Shelter so we are looking for her original owner for two weeks.
Irina might have been born in 2010. She is a big female dog. She doesn’t have a chip.

Sopánka and Spenót have just been born but they already have a lot to tell. We got a phone call in September and the question was wether we could accomodate two little puppies who were still breast feeding. They were found in a plastic bucket in Orom Street (1st District).
Fortunately our Boxer Saving Team brought some dogs, Wasa and her puppies from Illatos Road so we said yes to those two puppies. (We are not so sure that Wasa was too happy about the decision!)
Wasa looked after them as a good mother but they are big enough to be adopted for now.
We don’t know what breed they belong to. A lot of people doubt that they are brothers at all. Sopánka (the small one) and Spenót (the big one).

Fortunately some of our dogs have found owners this week as well. We are very happy as they all can live inside houses.
Faust moved to a family with children:

Cserép’s face and body language tells everything. He will be a couch dog and can play with three budies.

Our visitors may have noticed that we have been up to something lately. But what? Here’s the big secret. The mysterious building is … a bird house. We always had to find temporary places for our parrots and songbirds for the winter and this wasn’t very easy. But this year we designed, organised and built a new, beautiful birdhouse.
The construction (only the roof missing here):

Finally, this miracle was done and the birds moved in. We are looking for people who can help us cleaning the windows! 

The Shelter was full of photographers and make up men. Why? Who were the photos taken about? You will see in Joy in December…

And now I would quote from the ’Information in adoption’ part from our homepage:
„There are several million stray animals in Hungary today, with no chance of ever finding an owner and a home. This is why, like most Hungarian shelters, we are also one hundred per cent pro neutering (unless there is some veterinary-certified reason against it). Therefore we always give out our dogs already neutered and in case of pups the future owner is obligated by the adoption agreement to have it/them neutered as soon as possible.”
And we check it. This control is gradual and the results are dissapointing. Half of our dogs who were adopted in 2011 have still not been neutered. Among the dogs who were adopted in 2012 the result is a bit better, more than half of them have been neutered so far.
Objections are different: no money, no time, the vet adviced something else. We always tell everybody when they adopt a dog that we can help to find vets who would do the surgery for less money, they can always call us for advice but still there are a lot of irresponsibe owners even among those who were chosen by us.
Everybody is obliged by the contract and we will take legal action against those who don’t comply with the obligations.

„Inhuman animal keeper in Dabas” said the news in 2010.

Noah’s Animal Shelter received a request from the Official Chief Veterinary of Dabas on 26th March 2010. They said that there were kept 30-40 dogs on a ranch near Dabas – without food or water and their conditions were terrible. The dogs were taken away by the police and Noah’s Animal Shelter was asked to take care and look after those dogs until the end of the legal acts.
35 dogs were taken away but seven puppies didn’t survive.
2012:
The prosecuted was found guilty and the court gave the ownership of the taken dogs to Noah’s Animal Shelter. It means there’s no more obstruction, we can find new owners for the dogs.
