Morzsi - the dog of my life
2012.03.12.

Morzsi was my third temporary dog. Usually, if I fostered a dog temporary from NOÉ than I wrote many articles on it in order to get a new hosts as soon as possible. But now it's not surprising that most of you (probably more than 90%) don't know who Morzsi was or what am I talking about. The only people who know it are working for NOÉ regularly or his new owner. I will start at the beginning and in the end it would be clear what is this all about.

Morzsi has arrived almost a year ago to my neighborhood. An old man is living there and his family thought a young Hungarian Pointer would be a grate mate for him. But Morzsi and the man didn't get on well. Morzsi is more movable than the average pointers but an average pointer would also be so hard for the old man. So Morzsi had to leave his place in December and I got him. That's the story how he became a member of the NOÉ group.

A few days later I took him to the office where he got chipped and we tried to make some photos, but it was absolutely unsuccessful. We registered him in our database and also put an advertisement to our webpage.

Meanwhile I started to bind to him. Pointers were not my favorite type of dogs, but Morzsi is not the same as others, he is a real individual. He has slowly unfold and he showed me which is the most wonderful type of dog in the world. I loved that he is smart and giddy. It is also good to see his oafish eyes. It is funny that he speaks to everybody on the train and he is always having a sigh and a groan before sleeping. (To tell you the truth I think he is the dog of Satan when I go out for a glass of water at night and when I came back to the room, I saw he was peeing into my bed and he SMILED.)

At Christmas I left him home for 1,5 days. When I arrived home I saw he had diarrhea and he was throwing up. I took him to the vet and he was told to have a gastritis and he also had some worms. He was healed for two weeks. During this process he moved in to my flat. After two days he left my room clean so I was really proud of my little pointer!

He also stayed in my room at New Years Eve and he wasn't scared of firecrackers.

A few days later he started to argue with my dog. My own dog was the guilty one because Morzsa was so shy. But he had grouched to my dog and my parents didn't want to take care both of them while I had continued my studies at College. Morzsa was told to be healthy so he has moved downstairs again.

I thought he would brake emotionally, but fortunately it haven't happened. He got on well but for him it was better staying with me or following me. This time I decided to edit his advertisement as “he hasn't got a new host”. From that time on I was dreading all the time. It was hard to stay, walk or play with him. I was always thinking of the fact that our days together are counted. This article should be happy, but I can't (and don't want) to miss these parts. Many people don't see or understand this. They can't imagine how hard is to let a dog you love and our interest is just the welfare of the dog. And if somebody can show better opportunities for the dog we have to let him. Than we start the phone calls with the possible new hosts. Morzsa was THE DOG for me so I made strict conditions for the hosts and I tried to tell everything bad on him in order to have him for a bit longer.
To tell you the truth everybody can throw a stone to me but finding a new host is a divination for me. Maybe you remember Ali G. I chose his host also as a divination and it was good. He got a new armchair, he goes to school regularly and everybody loves him.

But now let’s get back to Morzsa. All the owner candidates have “failed”. None of them was good. That time nobody called me for two weeks. Morzsi got used to being happy in the garden and I thought it’s good for him, because he had been living in the garden earlier. Once, while I was going home from school -and was thinking of this,- the phone rang. I didn’t really care of the unknown number, I just picked up the phone. It was an owner candidate. I didn’t feel any negative thing. She told me that her former dog has died a long time ago but she needed time to process its loss and they are searching for a new dog now. She loves pointers and she knows much about them so she wants to be the owner of Morzsi. While we were speaking I felt that I would be happy if they own Morzsa and I told them to visit us in NOÉ on Saturday. I didn’t have the silly thoughts (when I talked to candidates before I had these thoughts) like Morzsa will run away, be sick, a car runs over him or he is going to be shot down. But now I was really calm. On Friday Morzsi was spayed and then on Saturday the first meeting came.

The whole family (mother, father and a little girl) came. I presented Morzsi and let them for a walk. During this I felt: Oh my God! Morzsi is going to leave me. My eyes were full of tear. I paid attention to everything as if I find something they do not do properly and I waited for negative sense. But it didn’t come. They arrived back soon. I was talking a bit with the father (Andris). After an hour I lost all the compulsion to find something negative and I thought they are the best for Morzsi.
Because of the spaying Morzsa lived in the flat again since Friday. On Saturday he picked the sutures so he needed a plastic collar. It’s hard for a creative pointer who chews his leather collars as well.

(In the center of the picture you can see the leftover from the collar after an hour alone! I don’t know how he did it!)I also don’t know why I didn’t think of this with the plastic collar. I was too innocent!

The next day two sutures were missing and the plastic collar wasn’t in its original shape. So Morzsi got trousers on and I disinfected his wounds two times a day. He didn’t like it too much!

He insisted on me, but in the livingroom he couldn’t climb up to the sofa now and the floor was a bit hard for him.
So he was searching for a cat basket...

(He was sleeping there like this!)

(Then he found the bigger basket and was sleeping like this!)

(And the final solution: No, not me but he was the one who constricted the baskets)Later on I felt sorry for him and went into my room in order he could sleep in my bed.

The new owners were waiting enthusiastically. But it took a long time for Morzsi to get better. With the help of the trousers and the plastic collar it took 1,5 weeks for the wound to heal. Anyway, the owner wanted to bring him home at the weekend to have enough time to build up the new friendship and in this case Morzsi shouldn’t stay home alone on the first days. Morzsi spent his last day at my place without the plastic collar and trousers. On the pictures below you can see how smart is a pointer. He doesn’t forget anything and takes a revenge.

It’s sure he knows how to look nice and then there is no anger.

During our last days we watched TV together.

We slept hands in hands…

Then came Saturday, the time of the move. We went to the train station where the cashier told us that trains didn’t go that time. It’s good that God don’t want me to leave Morzsi. So I called András to tell him, that I can’t bring Morzsa that day. I’m here and papers are at NOÉ. They offered me that they are coming for Morzsi by car which is almost 40 km and they are dropping in to NOÉ for the papers. I waited and I swallowed a lot.

They have arrived. The backdoor opened and Panka shouted happily: Móójzsii. We wrote the papers and then Morzsi sat near the little girl at the backseat of the car. I gave some kisses to Morzsi and his rubber bones (the only game he took care and didn’t take apart) as well to have some memories of me. That time I couldn`t hold my tears back. András and Judit told me that I can visit them anytime and they went home.

Morzsa went away. I know they love him. I also loved Ali G and I was binded to her. It’s the same with Morzsa so it’s hard to let him go. He was the dog of my dreams. Because of him I love the breed (pointer) now.

Visit by Morzsi’s place

András picks me up at Köki Terminál. While we are traveling I ask him him how is Morzsa. He tells me that Morzsa in as mischievous as he was by me. He has chewed the pillows on the chairs and also started to chew the rug. Now I could have been caught by fear that they are going to take him back in a few weeks, but I know it wouldn’t come to that. I see the photos and know that Panka and the parents love him. A few pillows do not matter.

And you can’t be angry with a face like this…

(Oh I forgot to say that I offer this article for those who throw out or as a better solution take the dog to the shelter because the owners are going to have a baby or the dog destroys something.)
So we get out the car and go into the flat. I can’t imagine any better/funnier thing when the dog of our life pees because of its happiness. It had happened. Morzsi peed in the door, then jumped into my lap and he slobbered over me. He was in ecstasy now, so was I.
Later he calmed down. He was walking up and down and frisked his tail, he nestled to me. But it was good to see that he insists on his new family. Panka also nestles to him and gives some kisses.

We go out to the garden. I throw his ball away and he takes it back. He seems to be happy and he put on weight as well.

As we were talking Judit knew that I insisted on Morzsi and I was so strict with the requirements. It’s funny because I didn’t feel the same. I understand now that why so many people hadn’t call me back later on. But I think if it determines other people it doesn’t matter.
I think I could find much better place for Morzsi. Everyone loves him. Panka doesn’t have to be careful or be scared of the dog. She knows that she has to pay attention and how to handle Morzsi. And Morzsi seems to be a brother for her.

Morzsi takes care of Panka and other children as well.

They celebrate the birthdays together.

(I think this picture tells you everything.)
They tell you that Morzsi realized the moon in the afternoon and he gazes at it for minutes.

We are talking till evening comes. Morzsi became tired so he is sleeping in his bed and I go home.

It’s hard to leave. I see he is happy and everybody loves him. I know many others would be jealous but I still miss him. It’s a bit better that I saw how he lives. His hosts are really great and they educate Panka in order to be the same later. To prove this she asked her mother before my visit: “Mum, is it true that Morzsi will stay us for longer?” The answer is yes, Morzsi is at home now!

For me the chance to take care of him while they are on holiday is enough.

That’s why it is worth it. This is the reason why I said that I don’t want to be a temporary host. Ali and Morzsi broke my heart as well. After Ali I needed just a few weeks, but now it takes a bit longer. I have tears in my eyes when I think of him, but it’s worth that I could help him. It’s good to know that he recognizes me and he is happy. I was afraid of the fact that he thinks I left him but the visit calmed me down. The next dog, who a better life needs can come!
For you my little dog I wish a happy and long life with your new family!
