A Debi update!
2012.02.17.
In the last couple of days there has been lots of things that kept me very busy so I didn`t have time to report on Debi`s health.
So let`s see what happened...
Unfortunately, things did not go according to plan with Debi at the veterinary hospital. While undergoing the planned examination of Debi last Monday, things did not go entirely smoothly. The vet confirmed that the hernia entrance is about 4 cm, and the good news is that there is no bowel coming through/being strangluated. The examination also showed that the hernia could have been caused by some kind of trauma (eg, a kick). The vet's most important question was 'When exactly was the hernia formed?'
Debi's previous owners said it was first observed on January 3, i.e. a little over a month ago.
The long and the short of it, such a recent hernia cannot be operated on yet. The reason is that during the operation, a mesh will be implanted in the affected area, which brings together the damaged abdominal wall. The adequate adhesion surface is required, but at the moment, cell growth will not be optimal, which is essential, so unfortunately we have to wait for surgery for Debi until April.
In the meantime, we must take care great care of her as she's 'fragile'.
Needless to say, there was a problem - She cannot be placed with other horses where she could get into trouble. Finally we decided that Debi, Carmen and Mule will live together, they are the safest company for Debi with the least chance of her getting kicked.
When we tried to introduce them to one another and Debi forgot her insecurities and showed that She is the ruling queen around here so we started to fear the safety of the other animals.
She was ready to prove her authority with a kick but the others were offended of the rude welcome and left her standing surprised.
The vet told us that Debi is in a pretty bad shape and he recommended a teeth rasping, which She will have soon.
Because of the cold weather she needs a winter blankett badyl so she shouldn`t "waste" her energy on keeping herself heated. It doesn`t matter if it is a used one the only criteria is that is should be very very big.
She also needs a new halter too. The size is FULL/XFULL adjustable.
Unfortunately, the more complicated surgery because of the net for Debi will cost around 250000-300000 huf. Originally it was estimated to be 150000 huf.
If you wish to contribute to Debi`s surgery coast or to her feeding expenses you can do it so the following way:
