We thought life would be easier after the beginning of January. Well, what can I say? This was sooo untrue!!! Mud took over, and the Shelter was inaccessible for days in a row. No doctor, no food, no supporters, no visitors. Animals would have poured in while most of the “New Year’s Eve” dogs were still there. In short: everything is okay, NOA’s operates as usual.

Let’s begin with those who have remained with us since the firecracker craze . Maybe their owners could still identify some. They had all received their shots, been neutered and chipped, waiting for adoption but we would really like to see them getting back to their original families.

Following the New Year’s Eve firecracker craze, the number of our animals has skyrocketed therefore we need to build new kennels. The space for the new kennels has been marked but we ask for your help for the realization.
The cost of constructing a 10 x 5 meter kennel is approx. 100 000 HUF. Safety is very important therefore we use only good quality, thick materials and we ask our volunteers to help out with the construction.

We gratefully accept any square tubes in any size and quantity plus 2-3 inch iron tubes. In the case of larger quantities, we can take care of the transportation. Please contact us at info(at)noeallatotthon.hu .

Let’s talk about the mud that make our days miserable ...without words…

One thing is certain: to be a NOAH volunteer is great in mud (as well)!!!

The NOAH Support Club yearly review is ready with beautiful numbers, providing enormous help.
Members of the NOAH Support Club supported the Shelter by 4.116.150 HUF in the year 2011. This amount enabled us to finance a high number of surgeries – many of them lifesaving ones – for our dogs and cats, and to buy medications and equipment. The Support Club has also contributed to the creation of our wonderful “catwalk”, as well.

Our dog, Füstös, who is everyone’s favorite, has a huge fan club. Many people love him and ask about him. He returns the love thousand-fold with his kind nature and more so with his fight against science and nature. Namely, he runs and dashes on all fours. We don’t understand it either but potential owners keep clear of him although his own family would be the most important.
Therefore we started a campaign on our Facebook page to find Füstös his own family.

The appearance of Matróna created serious uproar at the shelter. The old girl is the protégé of the Boxer Rescue Project but I don’ think there is one single NOAH family member who hasn’t heard about her during the last few days.
We thank all of you for the cooperation and the help that we’ve received for Matróna. She is with her temporary family and everything works well.

According to the newest info, her original family has miraculously been found. We learned that she is 14 years old! She walked out of the garden through an open gate and ran away deaf and blind. As one might think the happy end fails since on top of being this old and full of tumors, Matróna is also thin because she still lives outside – in spite of her age and illness.

In agreement with our doctors, we told her owners that Matróna must not stay outside in this freezing weather because that would mean certain death for her, in a very short time. Her old system is not able to utilize as much of the nutrients as she needs to keep her warm. Being blind, deaf and a little senile, she is not safe in the garden by herself, by any means. Since the family is unable to keep the sick dog in the house, they decided that Matróna should stay with us (and this was a relief for us, too!). Therefore, Matróna will be able to enjoy the warmth, the cozy pillows and the welcoming love of Zsuzsa and Fati.
Matróna is well, by the way. She lives her days like any old dog. She eats, drinks and sleeps, and does a lot of all these. Her tumors are not spreading rapidly but we keep an eye on her and do whatever she needs to feel good and comfy.

Our Horse Rescue team is not getting bored in the new year, either. They ask for help for our prospective new protégée, Debi:

Debi is an 18 years old, huge, (178 cm at withers!) Mezőhegyes half bred mare. Not toos long ago she had pyometra, which was treated successfully but it was discovered that she had hernia. Her previous owner had kept her among appalling conditions that cost Debi one of her eyes. Debi’s past matches NOAH’s little pack perfectly well.
Debi’s biggest problem at the moment is the hernia on her abdomen. A horse with a hernia can absolutely not be strained. She might live with it happily for many years and have the surgery much later, but it is a question of luck. One wrong move and her condition might become critical.

Debi’s owners unfortunately can not finance her surgery, and they can hardly afford to keep her and since she cannot be ridden, they started to look for alternatives. They wanted a safe place for her where she can get all the adequate vet care and attention, she deserves – and this is how we got into the picture.

Oh, why does every single DogLog have to have a section like this? Nevertheless, it almost always does. For whom our tears are shed. We said farewell to the following members during the last few days:

BÚÉK has died. Although I am expected to write something, I have no idea what it should be. My tears have been pouring since this morning. This tiny little dog has picked me as his mom for some reason although I didn’t ask or didn’t do anything for him. He made a decision. He was with me if it was possible, and if he looked at me his eyes were full of love and devotion. I didn’t want it… he made the decision and now my heart is broken. We do not know what happened, he was coughing the week before, and he was a little miserable but we treated it. He was also one of the victims of firecrackers and unfortunately, his owners were not found although he was a real celebrity pincher. He was on TV a few times with me, in anticipation…. And I was unable to provide what he wanted to most, to be his real mum. I am sorry, if I had known that he’d be with us for such a short time…. I am sorry, sweet little BUÉK, you are the newest member of my heavenly pack up there, over the Rainbow bridge… http://www.rtlklub.hu/musorok/csakcsajok/videok/154543

A miracle is over :(. Drill, the fighter walked over the Rainbow Bridge. Drill arrived here last summer, abandoned and nearly totally paralyzed. She is a beautiful, pure bred cane corso lady.(http://youtu.be/XbTJW-Aow-w). Following medical examination, it was found out that she had severe spine hernia, affecting her neck vertebrae. This condition must have existed for a very long time therefore the success of the surgery was unlikely. But Drill was very grateful for the care, the love and support she received and 3 days after the surgery she was up already. She was mobile and – what’s more important - she wagged her tail all the time. (http://youtu.be/XXYSwXBe7W0). She could not stop this new habit. She seduced everybody with her sweet and kind nature. She loved life, loved people, dogs and all living creatures. She was happy and grateful for all the pats and kind words. And she returned all these by getting stronger, healthier an she just wagged her tail and wagged and wagged. (http://youtu.be/61Np03Zfclo).
When the cold days of winter arrived, Drill’s condition deteriorated quickly. The weather affected her spine – in the process of healing - very badly. But all of a sudden an Angel appeared who provided her not just with a warm place and lots of love and being a natural healer she started to cure her right away. She massaged and cured her and thanks to all that things were looking up again. However, three days ago Drill’s four legs became paralyzed again, all of a sudden. Her heart and soul was the same but she didn’t wag her tail any more :( . The latest medical checks showed a severe and extensive spinal marrow infarction. All the chances were lost. The miracle was replaced by pain, lameness and despair. In spite of all the love, the insistence and hope, the most painful decision had to be made. We could not let her be alone in pain, helpless, in a cold hospital cage. Love and adoration still sparkled in her eyes when we stroked her and whispered in her ears. She climbed in our laps, clung to our faces and walked silently and calmly over the Rainbow Bridge.
We were happy and honored to know this dog. She was grateful for every step, for every wagging and she made it known, every second. And we feel it was worth it. A half year of happiness was worth it. The experience of a happy and healthy dog’s life was worth it. It was only a half year but for her, the abandoned, sick and sacked soul it meant LIFE.

We thank all of you who cared for her, who supported her. We thank her foster parents for the love and care and her doctors the congenial surgeries. But most of all, we thank you, Drill, that we could get to know you. It was an honor.

Our dog, Kapocs is a staple of the spine-section. He was brought to us with a broken jaw, severe spine injury and paralyzed front legs. Thanks to the doctors, his foster mum, Orsi and acupuncture, Kapocs started to heal very nicely. He stood up, although one of his front legs didn’t want to cure. In spite of all the treatments and therapies, this little leg hung as a rag and Kapocs was pulling it. To avoid further injuries we had no other choice but to amputate this leg. But be not afraid, according to Kapocs life is still beautiful :)
From his foster mum, about the days after the surgery:
“He heals extra quickly, I think his scars are beautiful and his mood is better and better. He is very playful so there are a lot of nose-dives but he jumps up and runs away, making no fuss about it. Since yesterday, he has been ordering me to take him to walk with Pocak but until suture removal we go only as far as the garden. It’s a good sign anyway, that he is in the mood to go:) His voice is also back, he barked yesterday for the first time since the surgery, and the complaining voice has also returned that we love to hear and laugh at :)"

And remember, Kapocs came with his front legs completely paralyzed! Miracles happen at NOAH’s all the time! :D

Let me introduce the newest star of our Shelter, Mici, the goat! Mici is a beautiful little girl goat. Her owner was unable to take care of her due to an illness and the family asked for help.
Mici has been living as a real family pet so far and that shows since she is very kind, and poses for the camera perfectly well. If she was a dog, we might say she is absolutely fit for the leash but being a goat I don’t really know what we should call her :).
Since Mici charms all of us with her beauty and her kind behavior, she has a change to become one of the stars of our events.
Mici cannot be adopted physically but she welcomes her fans in NOAH’s yard. Since she is a goat, she likes everything and is very inquisitive. If you want to be very kind to her please bring her a few carrots, apples or lettuce.
And if someone feels an insuppressible need to adopt Mici may do so virtually, through her data page. This way - on top of being able to show the new family pet’s photo proudly around – it is possible to support the sustenance Mici and the inhabitants of the yard.

News from the owners:
Whoever remembers must be happy to hear from Gumó, the little male pup who arrived at us last summer with a leg injury. Later one of his front legs had to be removed. We are happy to report that everything is okay with him and his owners love him very much. As you can see on the photo, the little guy knows luxury.

Our former protégée, Saci has gone through a huge change since her arrival.

And the mystery numbers from 2011:

Our shelter receives about 50 phone calls and innumerable emails every single day, not to mention special programs. People want to bring a dog, dogs or whole packs. Due to the economic crisis the number of dogs people want to pass on has multiplied we are talking about 6-800 dogs per week.
Our shelter and our special programs carry out a losing battle but the numbers speak for themselves. Let’s see our 2011 statistics:
