... Fall is back again…with rain and mud. But still, we would like finish a million things before winter sets in. Meanwhile life goes on, we have events in and outdoors. The Fox Reservation celebrated its 2nd birthday, we participated at the Komárom CACIB, a new corral is being built for our horse, Carmen, a mirror-method dog school is starting at Noah and as usual, there was reason to be happy and sad again.
NOAH Shelter and the breed rescues represented by us got invited by the Hungarian Dog Breeders National Association to present our work at the Komárom International Dog Show. We responded happily.
Our volunteers arrived early Saturday morning and set up their booth. They talked to a large number of people and were also able to look around in this world.

We were extremely happy to meet a four legged acquaintance and his masters at our booth – Tirpák. Who by the way is very well, thank you and enjoys lovely life in his own home.

NOAH support club

We are happy to announce that in September 9 new members have joined us! In the month of September this has meant a support of 393.950 Ft for the shelter.
It is hardly a secret that we would like to increase this amount since we need every Forint very badly to feed and cure our animals.
We are still looking for those animal loving and helpful people who feel that they could support our work by a minimum of 1000 HUF per month.

Our horse rescue team recruited strong volunteers. The task was to dig holes for the 3 columns that were needed for a new corral where the rehabilitation of our horse, Carmen (who is recovering from a leg fracture) could be continued. At the moment she walks about on a leash but the next step would be a corral. Until it’s finished we cannot move forward.
The guys came, dag and won.

A real happy end for doggie Jenki who has suffered a lot! After three weeks, Jenki went home. His original owners were looking for him and they accidentally found him on our website. We felt and knew that this extremely sweet and well socialized dog has to have a loving family somewhere who want him home very badly, Jenki was overrun by a car and arrived in our care with serious injuries. His leg and hip broke into splinters and had to be operated on immediately. He took the immense pain, the strange people and environment with patience and a lot of kisses. The greet encounter made us all cry because as soon as Jenki heard the steps of his masters – which was not at all easy given that he stayed at the hospital and the masters came through the courtyard – broke into happy barking and into a dance craze in spite of his broken bones. Naturally, he returned home with a chip. Happy end! :)

We are always very happy to receive news on our previously adopted favorites. Luckily - thanks to the net and primarily Facebook – nowadays it happens much easier and more often.
This is how we got news about Rizsa, who was adopted as a puppy and became a really special dog. She helps her handicapped owner.

"Dear NOAH People,
I adopted my pet from you on 28. 07.2006. Her name then was Rizsa, now she’s called Kókusz. She is very well, as you can see on the pics. The big plus in our relationship is that I managed to teach Kókusz to help me. I am wheelchair-bound and cannot pick objects up from the floor – but my little dog picks everything up and brings them to me, be it money, letters, a soda, a rag or a pen. She is my biggest help. I am very grateful to you because of her. Thank you very much that she was given to me when she was 3 months old.
A lot of success and happy new masters to you”

It is true that Yoghurt was taken care by the Boxer rescue but I followed the one and a half years he lived with an owner. And I think all that fight, love and endurance that his family showed set an example to remember:
Yoghurt has gone :( We thank Judit Finta and her family for the one and half years and the incredible struggle, the love that overcame all that this boxer girl has received from them. I wish everyone a family and a master/mistress like this. Judit’s farewell to Yogo:

"It was love at first sight… We felt it. And knew it. We need her, since one boxer is no boxer! She has been at NOAH Animal Shelter for a week and we jumped at her as we did with our other boxer, Zamat. She came HOME with us and was a family member from the first moment. They became best friends with Zamat, like Yin and Yang, and the sweetest for us. But unfortunately Yoghurt’ life was overshadowed by her illness. We wished and hoped that she’d recover and after three years of suffering with her previous owner we could be the ones with whom she could finally live a happy life.
One and a half years of hope. That’s all we got. I wish we had more.

She had immense strength. We could learn from her that life is valuable and you have to fight for it. She had endless strength. And even in her weakest moments she cajoled us into loving her. A look was needed and we calmed down.
And when she felt better she fought to be able to express her appreciation by her joyfulness and lively nature.

After her previous hard years everyone had to fight to make her believe that all we want is good. She was like the fox in The Little Prince. But after a few escapes she walked by our feet without a leash. This is how faithful she was to us.
With Zamat they made a perfect pair. While Zamat was the tank traversing everything, Yoghurt was the real lady, a charm champion, a little Nanny, who washed herself every evening like a cat, stepped carefully and cuddled sensitively. She was fragile like china, like her life itself.
Almost a dozen vets fought for her live with us against the unknown illness. And dad carried her tirelessly to receive treatments every day, and he’d have taken her to the end of the world if necessary, to cure her. It was true love between them. We wanted to save her but we didn’t manage. Nobody could.
The unknown illness won and she left us, over the rainbow.

There is one thing to comfort us namely that she received what she deserved. She is finally happy and healthy in another world."

It is unbelievable how time flies. Two years have passed since we set the first inhabitants of our fox reserve free, holding our breaths. Since then foxes, badgers, raccoons and Pikula the coati has been feeling at home in the 600 square meters large reserve. Therefore, we can almost post the “full” sign. Although sly ones in need of help have been arriving in large numbers.
The need for the reserve became clear when the first messages asking for help arrived, more than 2 years ago – with the first little foxes who got in trouble. Kópé was among the first ones.

Kópé was found near a family home, next to Pest. He was too close for comfort and the inhabitants of the house considered his friendly nature a sign of rabies, therefore thy caught him and transported to Illatos Út Animal Control. He served his 14 days’ quarantine there and it became clear the Kópé did not have rabies, he’s just extremely gentle. He did not have rabies but he did have babesiosis and his life was only saved by his caregiver who treated and cured him and later came to our shelter. He grew to love the little sly one so much that he didn’t have the heart to let him back into the wild. The situation would have probably been repeated or which is even worse the fox would not have been caught and transported away but shot, poisoned or simply beaten to death. This is how Kópé ended up in our care and became one of the first baby foxes at NOAH and this is how the management of the shelter made a decision led by the fox-project leader, Zoltán Matuschek and prepared the plans for the reserve. The brand new fox kennel, based on individual plans was completed in only 3 months.

Those who visit us regularly or have been to the shelter recently might have realized that in the back, behind the space used as of today serious landscaping has been taking place. Huge machines are in operation, leveling the ground.
Everybody is talking about some very big thing…

The veil has finally been lifted! A really huge thing is in the making! Mirror-method dog school soon to be opened at NOAH’s! An age-old dream of ours will be fulfilled.

On November 05, 2011, the third Budapest mirror-method dog school opens its doors, in close cooperation with NOAH Shelter, on the premises of the shelter wishing to provide solutions to all dog lovers who want to establish an acceptable relationship for both parties with their pets. The fall helper days have arrived when we ask friends of the animals to help us prepare for the winter. The first of the helper days arrived on Saturday. Several people came and we accomplished a lot. We want to thank everyone for their contribution! However, the works has not been finished, therefore we continue this Saturday. We expect brave spirited animal lovers. We welcome all helping hands on Oct 29, Saturday from 10 a.m.

We need help for the following tasks:
1. Doghouse renewal
Our doghouses have been partially and literally consumed by their inhabitants, one has part of its top missing; the other has a whole on the bottom… the houses that can still be used have to be fixed to provide shelter in the cold.
2. Doghouse winterization
We’d like to make our doghouses more comfortable and warm for our pets therefore we would like to put hay in them before freezing temperatures set in and also to fix few centimeters thick boards to the bottom of their entrances to avoid dogs from carrying the hay out.
3. Ground leveling
Our wicked four legged ones who have a need to dig holes into the ground of the kennels, during the summer. Since there is no need for “cooling burrows” we have to cover them.

4. Cutting rotten tree branches
A little beautification has to be carried out on the foliage here and there to avoid rotten branches falling on a dog or two in the case of a heavy storm.

Those of you who do have the necessary tools please bring them with you or let us know in advance which kinds of work you want to participate that we can provide you with the tools and nobody sits there feeling useless. To fix and winterize the doghouses we need accu-fed screwdrivers, hammers, saws, and for the ground leveling, we need spades, shovels and hacks.
For the works, we are happy to receive 4-6 cm wood screws, larger nails, wood for the doghouses (strip floor being the best, 2 cm wide sticks but paneling or OSB panels are also okay), bitumen slate or shingle roofing.

Following the Saturday helper day, we organized an excursion to Visegrád. It’s true that we asked for nice weather mostly for Sat, but a little bit could have remained of it for Sunday, as well.
Weather grey day or not we sprayed our dogs with anti-tick treatment, put their raincoats on, grabbed our backpacks and went off to Visegrád. We could not let a little bit of rain ruin our joint NOAH excursion!
According to the plans, we met at the Visegrád parking lot around noon. We had to confess by then that the national forecast had made a joke again because instead of the “might get cloudy” it was raining all the time. But besides spending time together, NOAH people and our dogs, the spirits were greatly lifted by the sentence at the parking lot by Feri, who adopted and fostered many of our dogs namely that at the end of the day he’d invite us all to his home for a real homemade stew. So, in spite of the rain we followed Feri happily who being an old Visegrád resident showed us beautiful places even in the foggy and humid weather.

However, after a while no matter how beautiful the landscape and how happy the company was, namely our dogs running around in the woods no matter what size or gender they were - we could only think of the stew mentioned beforehand. That’s why - although Feri would have been able to show us other beauties than the Mátyás spring, the roman ruins and the old tree – we returned to the parking lot a little tired just to take the short drive to Feri’s wonderful home.
As soon as we arrived at them we sat down and our host showered us with all things fine… and finally they presented the stew that had been cooked on an open fire just for us:

Few could also meet some of our doggy friends because they adopted Trombita, Kobak Hagyma and they also have foster dogs, Tóbiás, Csipa and Diego. They all feel perfect there and have no complaints about the service :D

At about 6 pm we said a sad good bye to our hosts but promised to return as soon as possible (and hopefully another excursion to Visegrád will take place soon that will be posted on facebook and our websites as well).
