Our newest horse Zsáner the injured
2011.09.12.
We received a notification about a horse who had had an accident on a weekday evening, he was said to have hit in the 20th District and needed to be treated. It came to light that a car had turned out irregularly to a road at a stop sign and hit a horse carriage, which was travelling regularly, consequently, the carriage fell over. The horse in front of the carriage was hurt in the accident. The owner of the horse wanted to take him to a slaughterhouse but thanks to the police men at the scene it didn’t happen because they insisted to have a vet called who would decide weather the horse is far gone or there is hope for recovery.
The owner of the horse couldn’t afford to pay the cost of the treatment/removal and this is how the Noah’s Animal Shelter came to the picture, because they called us.
We asked a vet, Dr. Zoltán Szelényi (we’d like to thank him his effective and quick contribution) who diagnosed that the horse didn’t have any broken bones but had suffered a huge hit at his left scapula resulting in having an approxiamety 20 cm long wound. It was obvious that moving, even being touched caused strong pain for him so our vet couldn’t rule out the possibility of bone cracks or joint injuries.
The horse got strong painkillers at the scene so he didn’t suffer from huge pain during his removal to the Huge Animal Clinic. His wound was treated at the Üllői Huge Animal Clinic (it had to be stiched and a drain was placed into the wound so the secretion could come out and then he had an X-Ray)
Fortunately the X-Ray was negative so there was no cartilage detachment but because of the brushes of the shoulder joint and the muscle injury Zsáner has to live a friendly lifestyle from now on, which means he is not able to work hard in the future.
Due to the sign on his neck, Zsáner is a fifteen years old, grey gelding. He is small. He tolerated everything from waiting for the horse transport to being treated at the vet.
He has basically been eating continously ever since, but that’s no wonder because he is not in a good condition, he should put on at least 100 kgs. He has been cooperative so far, but he likes pinching when there’s food around.
He is recovering on the Üllői Animal Clinic at the moment but we really hope that he can join to our „disabled herd” very soon and his integration will be without trouble.
If it’s in your power, please support Zsáner’s treatment and rehabilitation. Write at the note: Horse saving – Zsáner
