We have a stork again! His wings are broken, he can't fly and at the moment it looks like this beautiful bird is going to spend the winter with us. He does not have a name - please give us ideas!
He can not be visited yet, and in order to have a peaceful recovery he is in rehab at a temporary parent but as soon as he'll be better he will move to the shelter. The door of my office is open! :)
This week two of our dogs became celebs because we received an invitation from the morning show “Mokka” from TV2. Aunt Vilma and Góré from the Mini Shelter joined me. It became a real excursion because due to the studio's summer location we travelled to Gárdony. The main topic of the show was dog grooming therefore Góré was revamped live on TV!
I can assure you that both of them behaved perfectly well. They were kind and cooperative. After the show, we were able to show them the “big water”, too.
It is good news that Kalács, the tiny pup found a real home.
We hardly cleaned the box turned puppy quarantine a new inhabitant, Jóska moved in. He is approximately 3 months old, black Newfoundland-mix pup. He was thrown out at the gate of the shelter. He is an extremely soft, bouncy kid, hungry for love. He adores and trusts everyone. He will grow up to be medium or big size.
We are still strongly hoping to have temporary foster parents, first of all to adopt puppies and cats. Unfortunately, the number of pups in trouble has not decreased. Therefore, we ask all of you to assist them with a couple of weeks' baby care.
Three dogs in very bad shape have just arrived at the shelter:
Bonifác is an approx. 4 years old large black mix. We don't exactly know what happened to him but both of his eyes were hit by a severe trauma. At the moment he is completely blind. We have started his medical treatment right away and fortunately, he has reacted very well. The doctors are also only guessing what might have caused this sad state but it is most likely that he was sprayed or shot with a gas gun. His eye inflammation is in such an acute state that further examinations are not possible. Therefore, we do not know yet whether his blindness is permanent or if there is a chance to bring back his vision at least partially.
In spite of the trauma and all the shocking and strange events since (strangers, cars, travels, hospitals, treatments, etc.), Bonifác is a kind, friendly bear. He does not understand what is happening to him but he is still friendly and cooperative.
His eyes have to be treated several times a day, possibly all through his life.
He responds well to treatment but we do not know what the final result will be.
Imo is a teenage dachshund mix bitch who was left on the side of the road in Vasad by her owner. The little old lady's body is full of tumors and her joints hurt. She was so weak and dehydrated that she literally collapsed among the cars. The first task is to recover and strengthen her and her tumors can be treated later. We hope that the care, the treatment and the love she receives will make her stronger and she'll be able to join our club of retirees.
Meanwhile we found out that Imo loves people and life, so she made a fortunate choice to stay with us. She needs to regain her strength but later she'll need to undergo serious surgery, since her breast tumors have to be removed a.s.a.p.
Stone walked into a store a few days ago and collapsed. He has huge lumps on both sides, one is a Hernia scrotalis, the other is a bubonocele (inguinal hernia). He has hypothyroidism, causing a shabby rat's tail and bald back with a visible backbone. Plus a million fleas. Stone became a resident at our Mini Shelter.
By now, he has had his surgery. He is already recovering at the shelter. He too, needs a temporary foster parent. At the moment his body and soul are in ruins.
We are looking for the original owners of three dogs. All three are sociable, nice and well groomed dogs. We strongly hope to find their owners.
Schwarzkopf is an approx. three years old pincher dog. He was found in front of a hair salon at Gilice square in Budapest, hence the name. A car hit him but fortunately, he wasn't hurt. His hair is well groomed, and he is a sociable, kind dog. His eyes are a little inflamed and we have started his treatment already.
Janna is approx. three years old, most probably a giant schnauzer female. Neither her ears nor her tail is cropped. She wandered around in Péteri, and the local pound caught her. She is freshly groomed, and is a well behaving, kind, cuddly dog. She even has a microchip but it has not been registered therefore it does not help finding her owner.
Óceán is an approx. 10 months old black-tan German shepherd mix male. He begged and stopped every passer-by at the Maglód Auchan to take him home with them. He is not used to the leash but he is a well groomed and fed, calm but playful dog. He gets along with dogs and people just fine and does anything for a stroking hand.
Even our volunteers take vacations occasionally. However, a true NOÉ family member thinks of NOÉ even at the beach.
We do not only have a stork but 5 beautiful and a little anxious, snow white goats, as well. Their owner wasn't able to take care of them so they ended up at our shelter.
A tiny little hedgehog has also arrived. We are going to strengthen and nurse him a bit and hope to be able to release him in a few weeks.
We also had a transit passenger last week, namely a tiny bat. He was found in a parking lot and was terribly minute. He was taken to the rehabilitation center of the Metropolitan Zoo where they rear bats with a lot of expertise and experience.
Aunt Vilma is not only known of her beautiful smile and her celebrity status but she is the biggest fan of dry bread within the whole shelter. Whenever she can, she gets herself a piece that she then tries to hide. This is not an easy task within the barnyard of NOÉ.
Our piglets are very intuitive since pigs are smart animals anyway. One of them simply hailed a cab when she became tired of walking on all fours.
A few weeks ago, we visited the Kucorgó square kindergarten with Prince Snow. One of the kids later popped in by the shelter with her parents and brought this present with them. I might be too partial since the drawing depicts my Prince but as for me, I haven't seen anything nicer than this.
We have a new video… of those who survived… who recovered and whom we were able to provide a happy life with new parents. Meanwhile let us think of those who did not manage. (Attention, shocking pictures!)
