If you have questions about Gurtnika, please send an e-mail to !
A Veterinary clinic has called us asking for help for Gurtnika. She was left behind when her owners sold the house. The new house owners didn’t want a dog but they didn’t want to abandon the aging dog.
Unfortunately Gurtnika’s health started to decline, she lost some weight, she started throwing up and she went almost blind. The new house owners took her to the vet but the cost of the extensive test and the treatment was too much for the family to bear financially so they called us.
Of course we couldn’t say no.
We took her immediately to the Délpest Animal Center and Clinic where she was examined and it turns out that Gurtnika is diabetic. She is still at the clinic and she will stay there for a while because her blood glucose needs to be adjusted with the right amount of insulin. Unfortunately the disease effected her eyes as well. She has cataract on them. She doen’t really want to eat so we are very worried about her. We trust in our miracle worker Dr. Boda and his miraculous team! We know that she is in the best of hands and we are keeping our fingers crossed for her! One thing is for sure that when she comes out we will need to look for a foster home for her because her disease is not managable in a shelter since she needs to get her insulin on specific times and needs to be fed on certain times. So we are looking for a FOSTER PARENT for her!
Diabetes is just as dangerous for dog as for humans but it can be maintained well.
After she heals we will look for a family for her.
