If you have questions about Carmen, please send an e-mail to !
Carmen is a young grey horse with shagya arab parents. She came to the shelter in May 2011.
Her original host gave her to us, because her right tarsal was broken during a fell off. The original host hadn’t got enough money for an operation so Carmen was healed by a conservative way. It got better soon, but Carmen got artrhosis. This means she had inflammation by her joints. Her host thought not to keep her because she cannot be ridden anymore. Her doctor, Dr. Zoltán Kerekes asked our help, because he didn’t want this cooperative horse to die in the slaughterhouse.
We had though times. There were some minutes when it wasn’t sure that Carmen would walk without any pain.
She spent most of her days in the stall. Sometimes she was better, sometimes not. The breakthrough was the Shockwave therapy. The healing process went faster. Carmen started to walk a few minutes every day on our courtyard. In the end it was 2 times 20 minutes daily. Soon she could get out to the corral and then to the pasture.
