The first month of 2015 went by as fast as lightning. So what was January like? We were snowed in, and in luckier places snow cats could be built and snow cat angels could be drawn for at least two days, complete with fir whiskers, and we had to stock up on pouch wrapped wet food and tinned food in panic, in case we were shut off from the outside world by copious amounts of snow piles.
If you have not yet taken off the decorations off the X’mas tree, then don’t bother now: soon you can just hang bunny, sheep and egg decorations on it much to the delight of the cats. I still keep finding glittering X’mas tree ornaments here and there, which have somehow been taken off the tree...
For many cats Noé Cat Rescue was the start of a new year and a new beginning. We were delighted to be able to enter many cats from the waiting list ( many of them now have new owners) so practice once again has shown that when the opportunity is there, the waiting list system can operate very effectively.

Then here are the fortunate ones, who have started the new year in the best possible place with a new family, and now have their very own masters ( many have remained here still though and their eyes are slowly turning green with envy, so c’mon all you masters!):
In January too, we have fought against accidents and illness. We do all we can to
save a life at even the smallest opportunity of recovery, but unfortunately, there were cases again, when we lost those fights:
Those who passed away:
JerryBabócaSzombatBrünhildaOn November 15th last year Mitzi (formerly Brünhilda) came to us from her temporary master. I write to tell you, that this morning at 7 o’ clock she passed away in my arms. She started to refuse food about a week ago. She received the proper veterinary care, we did all we could, and spared no expenses, yet we lost her. It is unfair that in her short life of 1.5 years she only had 1-2 months of happiness, but I try to console myself with the fact that she had a few months of happiness at least. I was with her during the whole night, I was up and by her side all the time, I only sleep 2-3 hours a day, so maybe my writing is kind of muddled...but I was beside her, and that’s what counts. We have laid her to rest in a beautiful place and we all said goodbye to her.
MorgóWe had to let Morgó cat go, she contracted FIP.
Our ex-protégés who now live a happy life with a master- do find the time despite their busy schedule-to send us some updates:
Snow-siblingsI have long not given an update about the Snow-Siblings (Casillas and Valdés) so now is the time to drop you a few lines. The guys –as you can see-are beautiful and very dear (literally, since soon it will be time for their inoculations: the combined vaccine, the vaccine against leucosis, and the nasal drops against FIP- and not literally either). I adore them more than anything and anyone in the world- Casillas, the little girl of the Snow-siblings-fawns madly, loves to rub up against you whilst standing up on two legs
which she combines with a turn, she is able to stretch out her body to twice its size when lying down, and she feels at home in every plate. She roams the kitchen shelves every day and licks all the pouches with great joy for some reason, whatever that pouch may contain: rice, raisin, pasta, it doesn’t matter to her. Valdés (her tomcat brother) is amazingly beautiful, there is only one problem with him: he has no sense of danger and loves to roll around at the edge of the loft. Sometimes the siblings chase each other around, or chase Asamoah, but for the bigger part of the day they sleep, and sunbathe.Their fur around the flat is so much that it would be enough to make a third snow
sibling. Life is so much more with them around (smiley mood icon), I love to be sleep in the same bed with them, though it is impossible to read then, especially with Valdés, but he compensates for that by easing my back pain, he is a real medical accessory. So much from us for now. I hope to be able to
write the same things about them in 20 years.
Have fun at work, wishing you successful rescues and many placings in homes with a new master!
Ámor and EdgarI did not write for a long tme, because, there was no development to write about. I know that it is not yet quite three weeks since Ámor came home, but I doubt that he will ever make a lap-cat. In the past weeks he tolerated stroking while eating much more, and he allows me to sit next to him on the floor, but as soon as he finished eating he takes flight. He cannot be touched either
while playing, nor when being hand-fed, because he immediately rushes away, but fortunately, he can be coaxed to come back within a minute. Out in the corridor we can rarely pass him by, he is very quick to get out of the way. He spends most of the day hiding behind the bed, or under the wardrobe (he squeezes himself into a 10cm space, no less). Of course in the evening the cats are active, then Ámor comes out, and sleeps with Edgár on my desk, Mum says he also does this on the side of the sofa when he is with her. Of course, he is adorable, throws himself on the floor and rolls on his back, and one would really love to rub his tummy. And of course, he also comes whenever I call him, not just when it is food time.
Mephisto/RonaldWhat? What powder sugar? On the kitchen counter? In a glass? It wasn’t me!
BizsuBizsu who now goes by the name of Ribizli(Currant) is very happy here with us and with the other cat we have. He is more and more like a cat each day, sometimes he gets caught out and shows that he can play too. At dawn he climbs up on our bed, and it so happens that our two furry friends sleep on the bed for sometime, however there is some distance between them. He eats well, now he eats many kinds of foods, and at least gives them a try. We cut his nails every month, so that they don’t get stuck in anything, his favourite place is his little cat bed, which is his all alone, and the armchair, where he rests during the night if it is too hot upstairs.
SzepiI’m writing an update about our cat Szepi who we adopted in the summer. Szepi feels right at home, still eats a lot and is very cuddly. Whenever I’m in the kitchen during the day Szepi gets behind me in a flash. Szepi plays a lot, he keeps his favourite soft toy in his sleeping place still. We thank you so much for being chosen as Szepi’s owners!
FrufruWhat we have experienced on the first day:
Frufru is very cute, he cuddles up to us, and is really very playful. Though sometimes the play gets a bit out of hand, and I try to discipline him nicely and carefully. My other cat called Maca hisses and growls at Fruru for the time being, Frufru on the other hand would like to be friends with her, but Maca does not let her get on the bed. They are locked away separately for the night, and now when I go to work I also separate them in order to avoid trouble while they are on their own.
DesdemonaHi, I’m sending a few pics of Mona (that is what we call her). I have a question: have you ever seen her using a scratch pole when she was with you? With us, she doesn’t want to use it, she sharpens her nails on the
furniture. How can I make her get used to the scratch pole? If I see her sharpening her claws on the furniture I tell her off, then take her to the scratch pole but she remains disinterested. I hope that she will get used to the pole sooner or later. Otherwise everything is fine with her, she still sleeps a lot, eats well, and she jumped up on a lot of places already, being curious that she is. As you can see, she really likes the serving counter!
Trikó and TríciaA short update on both cats: Tricia and Whiskers( alias Trikó, but we call him
Whiskers) are doing great, now they are both sleeping in the bedroom. In a week Tricia has learned to roll around, hunch her back, ask for a massage, and also handed out a kiss this morning. Bajszi (Whiskers) is now able to hunt things down, plays with great enthusiasm, and provokes his sister to play around,-he also knows now how to ask to be stroked, but he does not yet dare to accept it.Both cats have discovered all corners of the flat and both slept on a window sill facing the street. It is definitely Bajszi who is the trouble-making, jumpy cat, Tricia is more sensitive and slower, a more perceiving type. They eat consciously: when they are full, they stop eating, but even so, Tricia can gobble, Bajszi is not the type to do so. They use the kitty litter tray perfectly. Right now all our nights and days are subordinated to the cats, we make them slowly make them get used to louder noises, bigger steps, and strange noises and make them unafraid of these. We are very happy that we chose them to be our cats! In a nutshell, this is it, thank you for all the help in the name of the cats also!
FrodóHi! I thought I’d tell you about Frodó’s first days Yesterday he was crying a little bit on the way, but otherwise he was okay. When we got home, he only dared to come out of the box with two legs at first, but then we stroked him, and when he saw that dinner was on the way, he immediately came forward.
He loves wet cat food very much, dry cat food for him is more of a plan B He is a real foodie. After dinner he looked around, smelled us, thre himself on his back, cuddled and purred. He likes to sit on the carpet under the relax chair, and he already has his favourite place by the table. If he jumps up
somewhere and we tell him off , he immediately comes off. He always kneads with his paws, so it is always as if he was marchig while walking. He loves balls, and is a laser fan, so we can make him move around a bit We try to take pics, but when he notices he always comes to us to be stroked He does not stay in your lap for long, he loves to lie on the rug and this morning he did jump up on my shoulder. As his nails were long he got a little pedicure, and he did not take it too badly. We did manage to cut the nails on his front legs. On Saturday we are going to see the vet, and during the weekend I’ll try
to make pictures. Have a nice evening!
KonfettiYesterday evening we went to see the vet with Konfetti. His ears were treated with the medication you wrote about. He got some antithelmintic treatments on the top of his back, as an after-treatment. He is due for his combined inoculation in a week. As for the neutering the vet recommended to set that
for the time when he becomes sexually mature. The minute we got home I put him in the kitty litter tray. Nothing at first, but after dinner we did have results. Then I had to put him in the litter tray again, but he found his way to it after that. He wants to eat continuously. But I stick to the several samall portions a day principle which you recommended. He purrs non-stop since we arrived home. I a happy that we were the ones who took him in. My partner also adores him...I will give you updates on him regularly. All the best to you all. .
Nico/NorbiNorbi ( or Nico by his old name ) is the funniest cat in the world., and to prove
that I’m sending you a pic that speaks volumes. We moved to anew flat in the summer where he will also have a balcony, and can even go out in the back garden, where there will be trees, and one floor above us lives a friendly cat called Maya, who will be his new friend.
MandulaI thought we’d drop you a line. Mandula is adorable. He comes to me and purrs a a lot. I often wake up during the night to find him sleeping on my bedcover. Another favourite of his besides the climbing pole is the bigger dog bed is where he sleeps now. His little body really looks funny in that big bed.
But it is a soft bed for sure. I will send you a picture of him as he is sleeping on the bed. He did get his first inoculation last week. They have started to play with Makkesz last week . I can’t make up my mind about whether they are playing a game, or whether Makkesz is teaching Mandula a lesson.
Its been nearly a year now since I adopted Cirbolya cat. I’m writing to you to thank you for your work, for helping me get the greatest treasure in the world. Her name became Missy after she came to stay with me because she was a friendly little cat from the word go, and always fell asleep in my lap
while licking my neck. She does not do that all that often anymore, because she is abig girl now, and is a little proud, but sometimes she skips her pride. She really loves to play and I sometimes think that she sees ghosts when she is chasing things. I don’t know why but she loves to chew paper and the mobile’s charger., almost every month I have to buy a new one, but I forgive her as she is the queen of the house.Sometimes she wakes me up in the morning by pulling my hair towards her as she is sitting on the window sill.Despite her cheekiness I really love her, and I’m a very proud Mum, she reciprocates my love, and I owe this all to you, who accepted me as her Mum.
Zúzmara
I’m sending you some pictures of the kitty. She has settled down, and feels at home, and likes and needs being taken care of. Her appetite is excellent.
In the winter period, many of our cats have found temporary homes with temporary masters. Their fellow cats at the shelter are of course green with envy when a cat leaves, they do so want to have their own master,so we must refresh their portfolio continuously every day.
Szellő
Today’s Szellő: The cat is really cute, but is still afraid of Andris. Gésa keeps on being a bumpkin. On Monday my little whirlwind dog got a little up close to Szellő and Szellő scratched him. But today she moved in front of him with her back arched upwards. And she almost nudged him as if to say: hey,
is this the one who wants to eat me? What is this? There is still room for improvement. Her favourite place is still the half finished room, that is where she purrs and coaxes. If a single yoga teacher comes around the cat is hers for the taking. Because she is too cute!!!
Hógombóc
Hógi’s dental treatment was done.I have foud one cat specialist dentist on the net, who specializes in oral care on Hermina street, they also are dentists to the big cats at the zoo, so we went to see them. Hógi’s bad tooth could not be saved and had to be extracted, but there were teeth which had to be chiselled or filled. We only had half as many teeth at the beginning, because Hógi’s total number of teeth are half of the normal amount. It isn’t FORL, it is due to his lifestyle. What could be saved, was saved, and had plaque removed as an extra. Hógi is now okay mouth wise, everything is ok in his
chubby face. The vet, who was wearing a cloak with small dog patterns said that Hógika is at least seven years old. His general state is totally ok, and his cheeks will stay, because teeth in themselves do not make faces so chubby., and the tissue there is thicker in itself. Both the sedation and the
awakening were problem free , and the dental repair process took a little more than half an hour. Ok, with the amount of teeth Hógi has, that is not such a problem...we got antibiotics which he has to take for a week. However, there is some bad news too: Hógika has got early stage skin cancer, a common problem with white cats, he might have sunbathed too much. On the ears the cancer is stage one, nothing should be done about it, however, the the cat cannot go in the sun, and can only be adopted as an indoor cat., and has to go for a check up half yearly. If the cancer gets aggressive his ears will have to be operated on and be amputated. Often skin cancer is mistaken for fungus, so other vets will have to be told about it. The vet said that with sun-free lifestyle the next stage is two years otherwise it is a half. At present regular check ups are the key. So Hógi is strictly a to be indoor cat, with the to be owner being aware of his medical problems. And because all this is rather dangerous to the cat, I will make sure the new owner sticks to these rules and make follow ups...
I definitely hope that Hógi is now ok, he now only needs a little socializations. That will I think, be helped by the fact that his teeth no longer ache.
Kacatka
Vitalij
Vitalij is becoming more and more balanced, thank you very much, he got friends with Vilike and Co. In the last few days, now they are all sitting on the same sofa together, and started to play together too. He loves to sit in the lap, and loves the furminator, needs company and talks a lot.
Batyu
Abu
Girls and boys today Abu had a minor accident, thank God he did not receive any injuries, but I have to tell you about it, we had a good laugh after the initial scare. We were in the living room and heard glass rattling sounds from the kitchen. I went to see what happened and what it was that the cats broke again, I saw that they broke a jam jar. I cleaned up the shards and returned to
the living room. About half an hour later we saw Abu and that something was stuck around his neck like a collar. I first thought it was something plastic, but then we noticed that it is the neck of the jam jar...the little fool probably put his head in the jar, got scared and started rattling it, and fell of the kitchen counter with his head still stuck in the jar. The jar broke while still on Abu’s head, we had a good laugh , Gergő even joked about it, as to why we did not
take a picture...
Tapsi
Tapsi gave me a little scare during the weekend, on Friday when I got home his right front foot wasn’t good. I remembered that in the morning he had a big fall in the bathroom when he climbed on the tiles, but because he left the crime scene on all fours I did not think it was significant. Because he could
stand on it, I did not rush to the vet, and by the evening I was sorry about that
because he climbed under my blanket, but remained still. In the morning he was limping a little, during the day he was still okay, but rested a lot, and kept sucking on my shirt. He is now okay, but seemed a little listless. He had an appetite, but I took his temperature because I did not like the way he looked. He did not have a fever. By the time I thought I’d call Timi and take him to the vet he was his old self again and was playing with Batyu., now the whole house is loud because of them. Grinning emoticon. It seems like he only sprained his leg a little, and took a rest to be ready for the next mischief. Wink emoticon.

Teodor
Today we went to the vet with Teo to see if there was improvement in his blood test results! When blood was drawn it could already be seen that the situation was much better, it was not some kind of orange coloured gunk which was oozing from the cat, but real, red blood! The actual results were
also much better, but still not perfect though, but compared with the last time it is a definite improvement. And now hold tight, the leucosis test came out NEGATIVE. Ok, so we know that one test is not really a test, and it probably means that the cat is now symptom free, but even so! For us it now can
be a lifeline, something we can hang on to, and hope that Teo will reach adulthood, and be a happy grown up!!! In 3 months the test will have to be repeated, by which time we will know more! Unfortunately, we had to turn to the vets for help within the past months,
so our veterinary costs have accummulated.
Thank you very much for all things donated, and at this same time, we would like to ask you to support the veterinary costs of our protégés, so that we can continue fighting in the interest of their health.
