The everyday life of our confiscated cats
2010.09.15.

As we reported in a previous post, the local authorities in the 17th district asked for our help with the housing of 10 cats that were kept in a fourth-floor flat under horrible circumstances. The animal shelter was given the task of taking care of the cats until the case is settled.

One of the cats was set free by the owner during the confiscation procedure. The other 9 were taken to the vet, where they received the necessary treatment. All of them were in a poor condition. One of them, unfortunately, died the next day despite the veterinary care.

VIEW THE WHOLE PHOTO ALBUM HERE.

The animals were living under these conditions:

They were very thin and unsocialized, and had skin infections.

Three months passed.

Many things happened in these months. The legal status of the animals is now clear, as the authorities affirmed the confiscation. This means that the cats can now be adopted, and we can start looking for a new home for them, where they can live for the rest of their lives.

But the most important things cannot be described with words. Let's see some pics of the cats three months ago and now:

Unfortunately, their mental rehabilitation will take many more months. Only 2 of the 8 animals are interested in any human contact, the others still cannot trust people. One of them is aggressive, and attacks the hand that wants to caress him. The others do not attack but try to avoid physical contact if possible.

Hopefully they will calm down and their psychological recovery will be as complete as their physical healing.

Now they are living in a huge yard together with our crows:
